2027 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 53 4-door Coupe X290
By Lorenzo Bianchi August 6, 2026
Two synchronous motors combine for 400 kW (544 hp) and 800 Nm, with a 3.5-second 0-100 km/h time and a 106-kWh 800-volt battery good for more than 800 km of WLTP range.
Up to 600 kW DC charging can add over 534 km of range in 10 minutes, and the electronically limited top speed rises from 230 to 250 km/h with the optional AMG Driver's Package.
German sales open August 13, 2026, with pricing starting at €115,430, positioning the GT 53 as the entry point into the GT 4-Door Coupe range.
A Familiar Silhouette, Slightly Lower
Mercedes-AMG isn't reinventing the GT 4-Door's shape for the 53 variant — the fastback roofline, long front bonnet and steeply raked windscreen all carry over from the range-topping models. What is worth noting: compared with its predecessor, Mercedes-AMG managed to build the new GT 4-Door Coupe 4 cm flatter despite packaging a battery in the floor, which is the kind of detail that usually goes the other way on EVs. A standard AEROKINETICS rear spoiler stays tucked away below 150 km/h to preserve the coupe's clean lines, then deploys through a range of angles as speed or driving style demands; an optional rear diffuser extends the rear contour to cut drag on long motorway stretches.
Proportions That Lean Grand Tourer
At 5,094 mm long, 1,959 mm wide and just 1,411 mm tall on a 3,040 mm wheelbase, the GT 53 4-Door reads as long and low rather than compact. Curb weight comes in at 2,375 kg — not light, but not surprising for a car carrying a 106-kWh battery pack. A 0.21 drag coefficient across a 2.44 m² frontal area suggests the aerodynamic work extends well past the visible spoiler and diffuser.
Cockpit Built Around the Driver
Inside, the instrument cluster and 14-inch central screen merge under a single glass surface angled toward the driver, with an optional second screen available for the front passenger. The center console carries a rotary Response Control selector, two wireless phone charging trays, illuminated cup holders and a closed storage compartment under the armrest. Rear passengers get individual seats rather than a bench, with what Mercedes-AMG describes as generously designed footwells, and a SKY CONTROL panoramic roof that switches from clear to opaque in individually controlled segments.
Power, Sound and the Case for a Six-Cylinder EV
The drivetrain pairs a rear-axle motor doing most of the work with a front motor that engages only when extra traction or power is needed, disconnecting under light load for efficiency. Combined output lands at 400 kW (544 hp) and 800 Nm, with a 270 kW continuous rating. Mercedes-AMG's AMGFORCE Sport+ mode adds simulated gear shifts, paddle-shift control and a digitized version of the old E 53 Coupe's inline-six sound, built from more than 100 measurements taken at 16 microphone positions — an unusual amount of effort spent making an EV sound like it isn't one.
