2027 Land Rover Defender Octa

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Defender OCTA gains an updated twin-turbo V8 with 540 PS and a richer exhaust sound.

  • Woolstone Green joins the color palette alongside new exterior customization options.

  • AI-powered voice control and new accessories enhance everyday usability.

The Fastest Defender Evolves

The 2027 Land Rover Defender OCTA isn't trying to become a different SUV. Instead, Land Rover has focused on refining what already made its flagship Defender stand out. The latest model brings subtle styling updates, expanded personalization, smarter technology and a revised V8, while keeping the same blend of everyday comfort and genuine off-road ability.

The changes arrive as part of a wider refresh for the Defender family, but the OCTA continues to sit at the top of the lineup as the performance-focused choice.

Familiar Shape with Sharper Details

At first glance, the Defender OCTA still carries the square-shouldered look that has become its trademark. Look a little closer, though, and there are plenty of small touches that separate it from the rest of the range.

A Gloss Black tailgate spoiler now comes standard, giving the rear a cleaner appearance without shouting for attention. Buyers can also choose the Chopped Carbon Fibre Exterior Pack on OCTA Black for the first time, adding another layer of visual distinction.

Land Rover has also introduced Woolstone Green to the OCTA color palette. It joins existing finishes including Sargasso Blue, Borasco Grey, Patagonia White Matte Wrap, Charente Grey, Petra Copper and Narvik Black, giving buyers even more ways to personalize the vehicle.

Cabin Still Built for Long Days

The updates aren't limited to what you see from outside.

Inside, the Defender lineup benefits from a new AI-powered voice assistant that responds to the "Hey Land Rover" command. Rather than relying on rigid commands, the system is designed to handle more natural conversations, making it easier to adjust vehicle settings or ask for information while driving.

Land Rover has also expanded its Technology Pack, bundling features such as a head-up display, Meridian Surround Sound System, ClearSight Interior Rear View Mirror and a domestic power socket into one package for more models across the range.

More Character Under the Bonnet

The biggest talking point is the updated engine.

The 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 continues to power the Defender OCTA, now producing 540 PS and 750 Nm of torque. Land Rover says revisions to the exhaust manifold create a deeper, more authentic V8 soundtrack, giving the vehicle a stronger sense of character without changing its everyday usability. It still reaches 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds, placing it among the quickest SUVs in its class.

The familiar hardware remains, including the Twin Turbo mild-hybrid V8, 6D Dynamics suspension and dedicated OCTA Mode. Those ingredients continue to give the SUV impressive composure on tarmac while preserving the off-road capability expected from a Defender.

Practical Upgrades Beyond Performance

Performance might grab the headlines, but Land Rover has also expanded the Defender's practical side.

New accessories include an Expedition Roof Light capable of producing up to 9,000 lumens, a lockable Tail Door Gear Carrier with 60 litres of storage, and Explorer, Adventure and Urban accessory packs tailored to different lifestyles. These additions make it easier for owners to adapt the Defender OCTA for overlanding, work or everyday use.

Rather than reinventing its flagship SUV, Land Rover has concentrated on thoughtful improvements. The 2027 Land Rover Defender OCTA remains every bit as capable as before, but now offers a little more personality, more technology and more opportunities to make it your own.
