2027 Land Rover Defender 90 Vertex

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Defender Vertex introduces exclusive exterior styling and new finish options.

  • Cabin upgrades focus on comfort, technology and everyday usability.

  • Revised engines and factory accessories broaden the Defender lineup.

2027 Land Rover Defender 90 Vertex Adds Fresh Character

Some vehicles don't need a complete redesign to stay relevant, and the Defender is a good example of that. Its shape has become so familiar that even small updates stand out. That's exactly the approach Land Rover has taken with the 2027 Land Rover Defender 90 Vertex.

Rather than trying to reinvent one of its best-known models, the company has spent its time refining the details. The Vertex brings a fresh appearance, more equipment and extra ways for owners to make the vehicle their own. It still looks every bit like a Defender. It just feels a little more polished than before.

The Changes Are Easy to Spot

The familiar upright stance hasn't gone anywhere, but the front end carries a little more presence.

A larger grille, redesigned bumpers and updated fog lamps give the Vertex a cleaner, more modern face. Around the back, a gloss black spoiler and body-coloured spare wheel cover tidy up the design without changing its unmistakable silhouette.

Some of the nicest touches are also the smallest. Yellow brake calipers peek through the new 22-inch alloy wheels, while matching recovery eyes quietly remind you that this is still a vehicle built to leave the pavement behind. Even the new Patagonia White Matte finish feels understated rather than flashy. It suits the Defender surprisingly well.

Inside, It's a Better Place to Spend Time

The biggest improvements are found once you climb inside.

The cabin doesn't try to overwhelm occupants with giant screens or unnecessary design flourishes. Instead, the updates focus on materials and everyday comfort. Buyers can choose from Windsor Leather, Ultrafabrics or the new Forged Textile upholstery, depending on whether durability or luxury sits higher on the priority list.

Standard features such as three-zone climate control, cabin air purification and a household-style power outlet make the Defender easier to live with every day. Those wanting a little more can add the Technology Pack, which brings a head-up display, Meridian Surround Sound system and ClearSight rear-view mirror. They're the sort of upgrades you appreciate over time rather than on a quick test drive.

Practical Thinking Runs Throughout

The accessory range says a lot about who this Defender is aimed at.

A roof-mounted light producing up to 9,000 lumens should prove useful after dark, while a new external gear carrier mounted to the tailgate frees up valuable space inside the cabin. Land Rover also continues to offer Explorer, Adventure and Urban packs, giving buyers the option to tailor the SUV to how they'll actually use it instead of simply how they want it to look.

More Choice Under the Bonnet

The updates aren't limited to appearance. Land Rover has also refreshed the engine lineup.

A new 3.0-litre P380 mild-hybrid six-cylinder joins the range with 550 Nm of torque, while selected markets replace the previous four-cylinder engine with a six-cylinder P300. The flagship Defender OCTA also benefits from revisions, including a deeper exhaust note that better matches its performance. Availability varies depending on market.

The 2027 Land Rover Defender 90 Vertex isn't trying to become a different kind of SUV. That's probably its biggest strength. The updates are measured, sensible and aimed at people who already appreciate what the Defender does well. It remains a vehicle that's just as comfortable crawling through muddy trails as it is parked outside a city café, and this latest version simply makes that balance feel a little more complete.
