A New Flagship for Kia’s Hybrid Era
Kia has unveiled the 2027 Telluride HEV SXP, the highest-spec hybrid trim of its next-generation three-row SUV. Shown at the 2025 Los Angeles Auto Show, the new model marks an important moment for the brand as it transitions one of its most successful nameplates into hybrid territory without altering its familiar identity. The stance remains upright and confident, but every surface now carries slightly more purpose, more sharpness, and more aerodynamic awareness.
Elevated Design with Familiar Roots
At first sight, the Telluride HEV SXP looks broader and more planted than its predecessor. The larger overall length and extended wheelbase are immediately noticeable, giving it a longer stride and a calmer posture. Vertical LED headlamps frame a higher-gloss grille, while the crisp body contouring along the doors gives the profile a clean, sculpted rhythm. Kia’s evolving design language is evident in the way the triangular fender creases catch the light, almost like facets in cut stone.
SXP models add their own visual signals: blacked-out accents, wider all-terrain-capable tires, and a bold mesh-type grille. Roof rails and a redesigned lower bumper hint at weekend-ready capability. Flush door handles, now becoming standard across several Kia models, give the SUV a smoother wind profile and help reduce drag to 0.30.
Interior Comfort with a More Refined Cabin
Inside, the Telluride HEV SXP continues Kia’s shift toward a luxury-leaning cabin experience. The dash flows in a gentle arc toward the driver, and the wide digital cockpit — available with dual 12.3-inch displays — sits cleanly above the wood-textured trim. The cabin feels more muted thanks to an expanded noise-insulation package with thicker glass, increased sound-absorbing materials, and revised door seals.
Seating is a major focus. Wider relaxation seats, power leg rests, and a memory-equipped steering column expand comfort for front occupants. Rear passengers benefit from heating and ventilation in the captain’s chairs, while the third row now offers available heated seating as well. With a longer cabin and re-engineered seating tracks, access to the third row is easier, and overall cargo volume grows to a maximum of 86.9 cubic feet.
Hybrid Performance with Everyday Versatility
Power comes from Kia’s new 2.5-liter turbo-hybrid system paired with a 1.65-kWh lithium-ion battery. Combined output reaches 329 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque — a meaningful increase over the outgoing gasoline model. The hybrid uses a 6-speed automatic transmission and offers available all-wheel drive with electronic torque vectoring.
Fuel economy is rated at a Kia-estimated 35 mpg combined, with an estimated range of 600 miles. Towing is rated at 4,500 pounds, giving the hybrid model real-world practicality for families who travel with trailers or small campers.
Technology Built Around Real Use
The SXP trim receives Kia’s latest Connected Car Navigation Cockpit system with over-the-air update capability, dual wireless charging pads, optional Meridian audio, and a larger head-up display. A suite of advanced driver-assist systems comes standard, including Highway Driving Assist, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, and Blind-Spot Collision Warning. Entertainment options include streaming apps and customizable display themes.
