2027 Kia Seltos HEV X-Line US Version

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • New hybrid powertrain with available e-AWD system.

  • X-Line adds rugged styling and up to 8.1 inches ground clearance.

  • Larger cabin, more cargo space, and up to 30 inches of screens.

A familiar shape with a different direction

The 2027 Kia Seltos HEV X-Line feels like a natural extension of the regular Seltos, but it leans into efficiency without losing the character of the X-Line trim.

This is the first time the Seltos gets a hybrid setup. It’s part of a broader update where the second-generation model grows in size and picks up features usually reserved for larger SUVs. The idea isn’t to change what the Seltos is. It’s more about widening its range.

X-Line keeps its tougher edge

Visually, the HEV X-Line doesn’t stray far from the rest of the lineup. You still get the upright stance, the sharper edges, and those amber daytime running lights framing the front. The influence from the Telluride is clear, especially in how the front fascia is shaped.

What sets the X-Line apart are the details. Dark gunmetal accents, piano black trim, and revised bumpers give it a slightly more purposeful look. The HEV version can also be fitted with black 19-inch wheels when paired with e-AWD. Ground clearance climbs to an available 8.1 inches. It’s not a rock crawler, but it does shift the proportions just enough to give it a bit more presence.

Bigger body, more usable space

The growth in size isn’t just visual. The new Seltos rides on a longer wheelbase, which translates directly into more space inside. Rear passengers get a bit more legroom, and overall headroom and shoulder room have been improved as well.

Cargo capacity also moves in the right direction. There’s up to about 64.1 cubic feet behind the front seats and 27.8 cubic feet behind the second row. It’s still a compact SUV, but it doesn’t feel tight.

Interior takes cues from larger Kia models

Inside, the HEV X-Line follows the same layout seen across the new Seltos range. The design is clean, with horizontal lines and an open center console that leaves space for everyday items. The hybrid model adds a stalk-mounted shifter, which frees up even more room around the console area.

The X-Line trim sticks with a black interior theme, SynTex upholstery, and mesh-style headrests. It’s simple, but it works. There’s a sense that the cabin has been designed around usability first.

Tech setup feels one step above the segment

The tech offering is where the Seltos starts to stretch its positioning. A standard 12.3-inch touchscreen is joined by an available 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a 5-inch climate panel, bringing the total screen area close to 30 inches.

The ccNC system supports over-the-air updates, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. There’s also a voice-activated assistant, along with optional streaming services when the vehicle is parked. It’s a lot of tech for this class, though most of it is layered in through options.

Hybrid power adds a new layer

The biggest change sits under the surface. The hybrid setup pairs a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with a dual-clutch transmission. It’s designed to balance efficiency with usable performance, though full output figures haven’t been detailed yet.

What stands out is the availability of e-AWD. It’s a first for Kia on a hybrid SUV, using an electric setup to provide on-demand traction at the rear. More details on the hybrid system are expected closer to launch. [Unverified]

Still positioned as a practical step up

The 2027 Kia Seltos HEV X-Line doesn’t try to move out of the compact segment. It just stretches what a small SUV can offer. More space, more tech, and now a hybrid option with AWD capability. For buyers looking at this class, it quietly covers more ground than most.
