2027 Jaguar Type 01 Compelling Blue

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Tri motor AWD develops up to 757 kW (1,030 PS) and 1,365 Nm, with 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds.

  • A 118 kWh usable battery targets up to 720 km WLTP range, with 350 kW DC charging.

  • The four seat GT measures 5,235 mm long, rides on standard 23 inch wheels and achieves a 0.23 Cd.

The 2027 Jaguar Type 01 is the production car that turns Jaguar's new design direction into something customers will actually be able to buy. It is a four door electric grand tourer built on the dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture, or JEA, and becomes the most powerful Jaguar road car yet.

Australian pricing is expected to start at approximately AUD $300,000 before on road costs. Jaguar says details covering the 2027 Australian order opening and first customer deliveries will follow.

Long Bonnet Proportions Survive The EV Transition

At 5,235 mm long but only 1,403 mm tall, Type 01 deliberately avoids the cab forward proportions common to many EVs. There is a short front overhang, an unusually long bonnet and an extended rear overhang. The distance between the front axle and front door alone measures 898 mm.

Standard 23 inch wheels fill much of the body height, while 21 inch alternatives will also be offered. Flush door handles and frameless doors keep the sides relatively clean.

Aerodynamics are less obvious. Active front vanes and a three stage deployable rear spoiler contribute to a drag coefficient of 0.23 Cd. At the rear, Jaguar has gone without conventional tailgate glass, instead using a solid surface with hidden until lit full width lighting.

Four Individual Spaces Shape The Cabin

Rather than treating the interior as one open lounge, Jaguar divides it into four individual occupant spaces with a central spine running through the cabin.

A single glass 24 inch OLED display sits ahead of the driver, accompanied by a seven inch central touchscreen. Rear occupants receive another seven inch display for comfort settings. The conventional interior mirror is also gone, replaced by a ClearSight camera display integrated into the full width Panoramic Soundbar.

Practicality has not disappeared beneath the design work. Luggage capacity exceeds 450 litres and expands to 1,000 litres with the 50:50 rear seats folded.

Three Motors Deliver 1,030 PS

Type 01 uses one 260 kW front motor and two 310 kW rear motors, producing a combined maximum of 757 kW, or 1,030 PS, and 1,365 Nm. Intelligent Torque Vectoring manages its rear biased all wheel drive system.

Jaguar quotes 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. More unusually, it also gives a rolling figure: 100 to 180 km/h takes 4.0 seconds.

Dynamic Air Suspension combines switchable volume air springs with twin valve active dampers. All Wheel Steering turns the rear wheels by as much as six degrees and gives the 5.2 metre GT an 11.5 metre wall to wall turning circle.

118 kWh Battery Targets 720 KM

The 118 kWh usable battery works with an 850 volt electrical architecture. Jaguar anticipates up to 643 km of EPA range and as much as 720 km under WLTP testing.

Maximum DC charging reaches 350 kW, enough to add up to 321 km in 13 minutes. A 10 to 80 percent charge is quoted at around 22 minutes.

With four seats, substantial luggage space and long range ambitions, Type 01 is positioned as a luxury electric grand tourer rather than a conventional performance sedan. It is also the first production model of Jaguar's new generation, making it considerably more significant than the Type 00 design study that previewed this direction.
