2027 Hyundai Staria

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • First fully electric Hyundai Staria, positioned as a flagship zero-emission MPV.

  • 800-volt architecture enables fast charging and long-distance usability.

  • Interior space, flexibility, and comfort remain central to its design philosophy.

A new chapter for Hyundai’s people mover

The 2027 Hyundai Staria marks a decisive shift for Hyundai’s MPV lineup with the debut of the Staria Electric at the Brussels Motor Show. As the first fully electric version of the model, it translates the Staria’s established focus on space and usability into a zero-emission format. Hyundai confirms sales will begin in Korea and Europe in the first half of 2026, with other markets to follow.

Rather than repositioning the Staria as a niche EV, Hyundai presents it as a direct replacement for combustion-powered people movers, aimed at families, shuttle services, and lifestyle users who require interior volume and predictable daily operation.

Exterior design shaped from the inside out

The Staria’s proportions remain instantly recognizable. Its long body, tall roofline, and low beltline are carried over, emphasizing cabin volume over visual aggression. The exterior is still dominated by Hyundai's "Inside-Out" design philosophy, which uses large windows and a one-curve silhouette to convey accessibility and openness.

There aren't many updates unique to electric cars. A closed front takes the place of conventional intake openings, simplifying surfaces and improving aerodynamic efficiency. The Staria's width is reinforced by a continuous horizontal lighting band that runs across the front, giving it a calmer, more technical appearance. Wide sliding doors and a large rear opening remain key functional elements, underscoring the vehicle’s role as a practical MPV rather than a stylized crossover.

Electric powertrain and charging capability

At the core of the 2027 Hyundai Staria is an 84 kWh battery paired with a 160 kW front-wheel-drive electric motor. Hyundai emphasizes smooth, quiet performance suited to passenger transport rather than outright acceleration. Estimated WLTP range is up to 400 kilometers, placing the Staria Electric among the longer-range vehicles in its segment.

The technical highlight is its 800-volt electrical architecture, a feature still uncommon in MPVs. Under optimal conditions, DC fast charging from 10 to 80 percent takes around 20 minutes, while an 11 kW AC onboard charger supports everyday charging. Hyundai also confirms towing capability of up to 2,000 kg, reinforcing the Staria’s utility credentials.

Interior design and daily operations

The Staria Electric's interior fully embraces its function as a multipurpose car. The flat floor, large interior dimensions, and high roofline create a lounge-like atmosphere that is complemented by large windows that let in natural light. In order to accommodate both private and business use cases, Hyundai offers two seating configurations at launch: a 7-seat Luxury variant and a 9-seat Wagon.

Technology is integrated with restraint. Dual 12.3-inch displays form the digital core, complemented by physical controls for frequently used functions. The Staria's usefulness goes beyond simple transportation thanks to features like Vehicle-to-Load capability, high-power USB ports, Digital Key functionality, and over-the-air updates.
