2027 Hyundai Avante takes a dramatic new direction
The 2027 Hyundai Avante marks one of the biggest changes in the model's history. Six years after the outgoing generation debuted, Hyundai has completely reworked its compact sedan, giving it a larger footprint, a striking new exterior and a cabin packed with updated technology.
Known as the Elantra in North America, the latest Avante moves away from the sharp creases of its predecessor. Instead, Hyundai introduces its new "Art of Steel" design language, giving the sedan a broader, more athletic appearance while keeping its compact proportions.
Sharper styling creates a stronger road presence
There's little chance of mistaking the new Avante for the model it replaces. The front end features ultra-slim daytime running lights positioned above the main headlamp units, which sit lower in the bumper to create a layered appearance.
Along the sides, sculpted fenders, muscular rear shoulders and available 18-inch alloy wheels give the sedan a more planted stance. Around the back, H-shaped LED lighting stretches across the tail, complemented by a ducktail-style spoiler and a dual-splitter rear bumper. Buyers can also choose from six new exterior paint colours and three interior themes.
More space and smarter technology inside
Growth in every dimension has helped create a cabin that Hyundai says approaches midsize-sedan levels of interior room. The new Avante measures 4,765 mm long with a 2,750 mm wheelbase, increasing passenger space for both front and rear occupants.
The dashboard takes inspiration from contemporary furniture, combining rounded shapes with soft-touch materials. A 14.6-inch infotainment display serves as the focal point, while selected models offer a 12.9-inch screen running Hyundai's Pleos Connect software and the company's Gleo AI assistant.
Hyundai has also retained physical controls beneath the display, giving drivers quick access to key functions. Other available features include a Bang & Olufsen audio system, a built-in dash camera, dual wireless charging pads and 100W USB charging ports.
Updated powertrains focus on efficiency
At launch, buyers will be able to choose between two electrified-friendly powertrains. The revised naturally aspirated 2.0-litre petrol engine produces 147 horsepower, representing an increase over the previous model.
Those looking for greater efficiency can opt for the updated self-charging hybrid, which combines a 1.6-litre petrol engine with a stronger electric motor and a larger battery for a total system output of 155 horsepower. Hybrid-specific features such as Smart Regenerative Braking 3.0, the Hybrid Hierarchical Predictive Control System and Stay Mode are designed to improve efficiency and convenience during everyday driving.
Safety and technology continue to evolve
Hyundai has expanded the Avante's driver assistance package with ten airbags and a comprehensive suite of safety systems. Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control 2, Memory Reversing Assist, Remote Smart Parking Assist, SBW P-mode Emergency Braking and Pedal Misuse Safety Assist are all included to support daily driving.
