2027 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport X

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • New 6.7L LS6 V8 produces 535 hp and 520 lb-ft.

  • Classic Grand Sport cues return with updated mid-engine proportions.

  • Optional Grand Sport X adds electrified AWD and 721 hp.

Familiar name, different era

The 2027 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport is back, though it lands in a very different place than before. The name once belonged to front-engine Corvettes chasing lap times with lightweight intent. Now it sits on the mid-engine platform, which changes how the car looks and how it carries itself on the road.

Even so, Chevrolet hasn’t let go of the identity. The visual cues are still there, just adjusted to fit the layout. The traditional hash marks, for example, move toward the rear of the car. It’s a small detail, but it reflects where the engine now lives.

Admiral Blue Metallic makes a return as well. Paired with a white center stripe and red accents, it leans heavily into the Grand Sport’s archive without feeling forced.

Still wide, still planted

The stance doesn’t need explaining if you’ve seen a C8 before. It’s low, wide, and pushed out to the corners. The Grand Sport doesn’t overdo it with extra aero, but the shape already carries enough presence.

Wheel options play a bigger role than expected. Lightweight forged designs come standard, while carbon-fiber wheels are available for those looking to shave weight. The proportions stay clean. Cabin forward, tight rear deck, everything pulled inward around the engine.

Cabin keeps things focused

Inside, the layout sticks to what the C8 already does well. It wraps around the driver, keeps controls close, and avoids unnecessary clutter.

The Launch Edition adds a bit more personality. Santorini Blue covers most of the cabin, broken up by red stitching and small accents. The details are easy to miss at first. The headrests carry a subtle Grand Sport outline, and even the trim around the driver display lines up with the steering wheel marker.

It doesn’t try too hard to impress. The materials and layout do most of the work.

A larger V8 with more urgency

The biggest change sits behind the cabin. Chevrolet introduces a new 6.7-liter LS6 V8, now serving as the core engine for the Grand Sport. Output stands at 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque.

It remains naturally aspirated, which matters here. The response is immediate, and the character leans more mechanical than filtered. A higher compression ratio and increased displacement help push more torque across the rev range, while the eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox handles shifts cleanly.

There’s also a new center-exit exhaust option, something not previously seen with this engine layout in the current generation.

A second option for more grip

For those wanting something beyond rear-wheel drive, the Grand Sport X takes a different route. It adds a front electric motor, creating an all-wheel-drive setup with a combined output of 721 horsepower.

The system isn’t just about straight-line speed. The front motor provides instant torque at lower speeds and helps with traction when exiting corners. It also introduces quiet driving modes, including a low-speed electric-only setting.

Built to stretch between road and track

The Grand Sport still sits in that middle ground. It’s meant to be usable without feeling watered down.

Magnetic Ride Control comes standard, paired with a setup that leans toward comfort until pushed harder. From there, optional packages start to shift the car’s character. Stiffer suspension, more aggressive tires, and upgraded brakes bring it closer to track use.

Push further, and the hardware follows. Carbon-ceramic brakes, Cup 2R tires, and added aerodynamic pieces turn it into something far more focused.

Right in the middle of the lineup

Chevrolet positions the Grand Sport where it has always worked best. Not the entry point, not the extreme end either. Somewhere in between.

It carries enough performance to feel serious, but still leaves room for daily use. That balance has always defined the badge. The difference now is the platform underneath it. Mid-engine, more precise, and already familiar.
