The sporting side of the Flying Spur returns
For years, the Flying Spur has occupied an unusual space in the luxury car world. It's a limousine capable of crossing continents in silence, yet it has always carried more performance potential than many owners are ever likely to use.
The 2027 Bentley Flying Spur S leans further into that second characteristic.
Returning as part of the latest Flying Spur range, the S model sits as the driver's choice within Bentley's four-door lineup. It builds on the redesign introduced across the standard Flying Spur while adding a more focused personality and a significant increase in performance.
Looking through Bentley's official images and specifications, the goal seems clear. This isn't about transforming the Flying Spur into a sports sedan. Instead, Bentley has sharpened the edges of an already capable grand tourer.
A cleaner design with a darker attitude
The latest Flying Spur introduces one of the most significant visual updates in the model's recent history.
Single front headlamps return to a Bentley sedan for the first time since 1962, giving the front end a cleaner appearance. The grille is now integrated into the bumper, while the traditional wing vent has been removed in favor of smoother body surfaces.
The S model adds its own visual identity on top of those changes.
Gloss-black matrix grilles, black Bentley badging, Beluga black mirror caps, darkened lighting elements, and black exterior trim create a noticeably more purposeful look. At the rear, dark exhaust finishers and tinted taillamps reinforce the sporting theme without overwhelming the car's elegant proportions.
The effect is subtle but effective. The Flying Spur still looks unmistakably Bentley, just with a little more intent.
More power than any Flying Spur S before it
Under the skin, the numbers tell the biggest story.
The new High Performance Hybrid powertrain produces 680 PS and 930 Nm, making this the most powerful Flying Spur S ever offered. Bentley says the sedan can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and continue to a top speed of 191 mph.
That's an increase of 130 PS compared with the previous Flying Spur S.
What's interesting is how Bentley has paired that performance with a chassis package previously reserved for the Speed and Mulliner models. The Performance Active Chassis combines Active All Wheel Drive, torque vectoring, twin-valve dampers, Bentley Dynamic Ride, and updated ESC software. For the first time, a Flying Spur S also receives an electronic limited-slip differential.
Taken together, the hardware suggests Bentley expects owners to explore the car's dynamic abilities rather than simply admire its specifications.
Luxury remains part of the formula
Despite its performance focus, the Flying Spur S hasn't abandoned the craftsmanship expected from Crewe.
Bentley now offers five different seat styles across the Flying Spur range, each requiring approximately twelve hours of hand craftsmanship. Buyers can choose between fluted and advanced quilted designs depending on whether they prefer a more traditional or contemporary interior atmosphere.
For customers looking to go even further, the Virtuoso Collection introduces unique embroidery, Champagne Gold accents, and the Naim for Mulliner audio system. Featuring 21 speakers and technology derived from Focal's flagship Grand Utopia loudspeakers, it represents Bentley's most ambitious in-car audio setup to date.
The Flying Spur S ultimately succeeds because it doesn't force buyers to choose between performance and luxury. It simply offers more of both.
