By Lorenzo Bianchi June 24, 2026
First-ever Audi Sport RS model to use plug-in hybrid technology.
Combined output reaches 639 PS and 825 Nm from a V6 and electric motor.
Electric driving range extends to up to 52 miles between charges.
2027 Audi RS 5 Avant UK Version Opens A New Chapter For Audi Sport
The Audi RS formula has always been fairly easy to understand. Take a practical everyday car, give it far more power than anyone really needs, add quattro all-wheel drive, and make sure it can still handle the school run on Monday morning.
The 2027 Audi RS 5 Avant UK Version follows that recipe, but this time there's something new under the skin.
For the first time in the history of an RS production model, Audi Sport has introduced plug-in hybrid technology. Purists might raise an eyebrow at first. Then they'll probably look at the numbers and think again.
Familiar RS Styling With Extra Presence
Audi hasn't tried to reinvent the appearance of the RS 5 Avant.
Instead, the designers have taken the familiar RS ingredients and sharpened them further. The front end is dominated by a honeycomb Singleframe grille flanked by prominent air curtains, while the wide wheel arches instantly separate the RS model from the standard A5 range.
From the side, the swollen shoulder blisters remain one of the car's most distinctive details, a subtle nod to the legendary Ur quattro. Around the back, a roof spoiler, full-width rear lighting signature and centrally positioned oval exhaust outlets ensure nobody mistakes this for a regular estate.
Even standing still, it looks like a car that's carrying a lot of intent.
A Cabin Built Around The Driver
Inside, Audi has combined its latest digital technology with the sort of details buyers expect from a flagship RS model.
The curved Audi MMI Panorama display integrates an 11.9-inch virtual cockpit and a 14.5-inch central touchscreen, while a dedicated passenger display adds another layer of functionality. A head-up display comes as standard, keeping key information directly in the driver's line of sight.
The sport seats plus are among the highlights. They feature ventilation, massage functions and distinctive honeycomb quilting, creating a cabin that feels ready for long-distance touring as much as enthusiastic driving.
Hybrid Power Meets RS Performance
The biggest story sits beneath the bodywork.
Power comes from a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 working alongside a 130 kW electric motor. Together they produce 639 PS and 825 Nm of torque, enough to send the RS 5 Avant from 0-62 mph in just 3.6 seconds.
Those figures place it firmly among the quickest performance estates on sale today.
Yet this RS model also has another side to its personality. Audi says the plug-in hybrid system can deliver up to 52 miles of electric-only driving, allowing many daily commutes to be completed without using the V6 at all. When charging is required, the battery can be replenished from empty to full in around two and a half hours using an 11 kW charger.
Practicality Remains Part Of The Formula
Performance may grab the headlines, but practicality remains one of the RS 5 Avant's strongest qualities.
The estate body offers up to 1,302 litres of luggage space with the rear seats folded, making it considerably more versatile than many sports cars delivering similar performance.
With its combination of hybrid efficiency, serious straight-line pace and everyday usability, the new RS 5 Avant feels like Audi Sport's answer to changing expectations in the performance car market.
It still delivers everything buyers expect from an RS model. It just happens to plug in now.
