2026 Zhiji L6 Jimmy Choo Edition
By Lorenzo Bianchi August 22, 2026
IM Motors has partnered with footwear designer Jimmy Choo, named Haute Couture Design Master for the model, to create a bespoke limited-edition IM L6 — sold in Australia as the IM5.
The edition's blue cabin was inspired by the blue satin shoes Jimmy Choo designed for the late Diana, Princess of Wales, paired with crystal-inspired detailing and bespoke blue brake calipers.
The Jimmy Choo edition has been developed exclusively for the Chinese market.
A Fashion Collaboration Built Around One Car
IM Motors has unveiled the IM L6 × Prof. Jimmy Choo Bespoke Limited Edition, a limited-production electric fastback developed with the internationally known footwear designer, announced through IM Motors' Australian arm on 21 August 2026. The underlying car is sold in Australia as the IM5, so local buyers have a reference point for the shape even though this specific bespoke edition isn't heading to Australian showrooms — more on that below.
Design Language Borrowed From the Runway
The collaboration centres on crystal-inspired detailing that runs across both the body and cabin, including camera housings finished with a crystal-look treatment and brake calipers painted in a bespoke blue. IM Motors frames the car as an exercise in "personal expression," with design details standing in for the usual spec-sheet talking points a launch like this would normally lead with.
Interior Space and Technology
The signature element is the cabin itself, finished in a bespoke blue that Jimmy Choo says traces back to the satin shoes he designed for Diana, Princess of Wales, one of his best-known clients during his career. Crystal-inspired detailing carries through to the interior trim as well. Beyond that colour and materials story, the release doesn't specify seat count, screen sizes, upholstery materials or infotainment features.
Practical Usability
Cargo capacity, seating configuration and charging specifications also aren't part of this announcement, leaving the bespoke edition's day-to-day usability an open question for now.
Market Position
The more concrete story here is availability rather than hardware. IM Motors — a joint venture between SAIC, ZJ Hi-Tech and Alibaba, operating under MG Motor in Australia — currently sells the IM5 and IM6 locally, but the release states plainly that the new-generation IM L6 and its Jimmy Choo edition "have been developed for the Chinese market, with no Australian availability announced." MG Motor Australia's marketing director, Dimitri Andreatidis, described the tie-up as evidence of IM's ambition to challenge expectations around what a premium electric vehicle can be, while acknowledging that not every product built for one market makes it to another. For now, the Jimmy Choo edition functions as a design statement and a signal of where the brand is heading globally, rather than a car Australian — or other international — buyers can order.
