2026 WEY Tank 400

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Refreshed design with upgraded front fascia and lidar-equipped roof.

  • Two hybrid powertrains: Hi4-T and Hi4-Z, up to 635 kW output.

  • New interior with dual 15.6-inch screens and advanced Coffee OS 3.

A Confident Evolution of the Tank Formula

The 2026 WEY Tank 400 doesn’t reinvent itself — it matures. Priced between ¥249,800 and ¥319,800, the new model arrives with the kind of quiet assurance that comes from knowing exactly what it is: a large, capable SUV that can crawl through the rough stuff yet feel almost urbane in traffic.

From a distance, the silhouette is familiar. That boxy, mecha-inspired stance remains, but look closer and the details have softened. The redesigned front bumper now stretches cleanly across the width of the vehicle, the edges less angular than before. The grille grows wider too, giving the front end a broader, calmer look that trades aggression for confidence.

The Tank 400’s proportions — 4964 mm long, 1970 mm wide, and 1905 mm high — still give it presence. Short overhangs and a 2850 mm wheelbase keep it balanced for both trail and tarmac. Paint choices now include Phantom Black, Wing Silver, Nebula Gray, and Dunhuang Purple — colors that underline the SUV’s mechanical yet polished aesthetic.

Smart Tech in a Hard Shell

The biggest story this year sits on the roof — a new lidar sensor that supports WEY’s latest Coffee Pilot Ultra driver assistance suite. The system enables advanced NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) functions for both city and highway use, plus automated parking across over 200 space types. Early impressions from test drives suggest it’s impressively composed, with just occasional hesitation in dense traffic.

In capability terms, the Tank 400 hasn’t lost its edge. Its 33° approach and 31° departure angles, 224 mm ground clearance, and 800 mm wading depth keep it squarely in the off-road category. Yet the technology it carries — from high-resolution sensors to adaptive software — signals WEY’s growing ambition in intelligent mobility, not just mechanical strength.

Interior Comfort with a Modern Edge

The cabin is where this update feels most transformative. The dashboard is cleaner, with a column-mounted shifter and a tidy division of controls across metallic-finished panels. The center console now flows neatly between dual wireless charging pads, cupholders, and an off-road control area. Interior color choices include Midnight Black, Corona Red, and Moon Shadow Gray.

Two 15.6-inch displays dominate the interior — one up front and one for rear passengers. The system runs on Coffee OS 3 powered by Qualcomm’s 8295 chip and integrates the brand’s Coffee GPT voice assistant, allowing natural-language interaction. There’s even a cooled compartment in the front armrest, turning long journeys into lounge-like experiences.

Performance and Electrified Muscle

Underneath, the 2026 Tank 400 offers several powertrain options. Gasoline variants carry over the 2.0T mild-hybrid and 2.4T diesel, both paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

The plug-in hybrids, however, headline the lineup. The Hi4-T combines a 2.0T engine with a front motor for 310 kW and 750 Nm, supported by a 37.1 kWh battery delivering 105 km WLTC electric range. The flagship Hi4-Z, featuring dual motors and a 59.05 kWh pack, generates 635 kW and a staggering 1195 Nm, sending this near three-ton SUV to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds. It runs on an 800V platform, supports 163 kW fast charging, and delivers 6 kW external discharge, ideal for powering equipment outdoors.

In essence, the 2026 WEY Tank 400 bridges two worlds: the raw authenticity of off-road engineering and the quiet intelligence of connected mobility. It’s less about changing direction and more about sharpening focus — an SUV that looks ready for the wild, but just as capable in a world that’s quickly going digital.
