A Darker Take on Volvo’s Compact EV
The 2027 Volvo EX30 Black Edition introduces a sharper aesthetic to Volvo’s smallest all-electric SUV. Announced on 13 February 2026, the Black Edition builds on the EX30’s established position in the UK market, where it ranked as the tenth best-selling battery electric vehicle in 2025.
Available to order now, the Black Edition applies a uniform high-gloss black treatment to several exterior elements. Nineteen-inch alloy wheels, the grille strikethrough, iron mark, rear Volvo script and model badge all receive the dark finish, as do the roof spoiler and door mirror covers. Tinted rear windows complete the look.
The result is a compact SUV that feels visually denser and more resolved than the standard car. In Onyx Black metallic paint—the sole exterior colour offered—the bodywork shifts tone subtly depending on light conditions, appearing almost liquid under daylight and more restrained in shadow
Interior Specification and Technology
Inside, the 2027 Volvo EX30 Black Edition pairs its exterior restraint with a distinctive Indigo interior. Deep blue upholstery combines studio-inspired textile materials with upcycled denim trim, an exclusive configuration for this variant.
A 12.3-inch central display anchors the dashboard, consistent with Volvo’s minimalist interface philosophy. Air quality measurement and remote cabin air pre-cleaning are included, reinforcing the brand’s focus on in-cabin wellbeing.
Driver assistance systems remain comprehensive. The EX30 is equipped with up to five radars, five cameras and twelve ultrasonic sensors to monitor its surroundings. Adaptive cruise control and a powered tailgate are standard, underscoring its role as a compact premium SUV rather than a stripped-back entry model.
