The Touareg FINAL EDITION (£72,535 OTR) and plug-in hybrid Touareg R FINAL EDITION (£81,455 OTR) went on sale in the UK from 11 December 2025, both priced lower than the outgoing models they replace while adding features worth £2,500 and £1,700 respectively.
UK factory production of the combustion-engined Touareg is set to end in 2027, with these FINAL EDITION models marking the run-out of a nameplate that's sold over 1.2 million units globally since its 2002 debut.
The FINAL EDITION uses a 286PS 3.0 TDI engine, while the Touareg R FINAL EDITION runs a 462PS 3.0 TSI eHybrid plug-in hybrid setup — both paired with 4MOTION all-wheel drive and an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic.
A Run-Out Edition for Volkswagen's Flagship SUV
Volkswagen's Touareg FINAL EDITION and Touareg R FINAL EDITION went on sale in the UK from 11 December 2025, marking what the brand explicitly calls "the end of an era" for its longest-running SUV nameplate. Worth being precise about timing: this wasn't a 2026 reveal in the way that framing might suggest — order books opened, and cars went on sale, in December 2025, with UK factory production of the combustion-engined Touareg confirmed to continue only through to 2027.
Exterior Design
Touareg FINAL EDITION lettering runs through the car's detailing rather than sitting as a single badge: it's laser-engraved into the rear door window surrounds, embossed into the leather gear lever, and worked into the illuminated dash panel trim and sill panel mouldings. Both cars add metallic paint as standard, one of several small but consistent additions Volkswagen bundles into what it values at £2,500 of extra features on the Touareg FINAL EDITION and £1,700 on the R FINAL EDITION.
Interior and Technology
The Touareg FINAL EDITION steps up to upgraded Varenna leather seats, interior ambient lighting with 30 colour options, and stainless steel illuminated door sill protectors — additions that don't appear to carry over to the R FINAL EDITION, which sticks closer to the outgoing R model's cabin spec beyond the shared Touareg FINAL EDITION lettering [Inference]. Both cars gain power latching, or assisted closing, for all doors.
Powertrain and Performance
Volkswagen keeps the two cars mechanically distinct. The Touareg FINAL EDITION runs a 286PS 3.0-litre TDI diesel, while the Touareg R FINAL EDITION uses a considerably more potent 462PS 3.0 TSI eHybrid plug-in hybrid setup. Both are paired with 4MOTION all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic Tiptronic gearbox.
Practical Usability
The Touareg FINAL EDITION's fuel tank capacity grows to 90 litres, and both cars gain a power-folding tow bar with Trailer Assist — a relevant addition given the Touareg's role as a genuine load-hauling SUV rather than a purely lifestyle-focused crossover.
Market Position
The Touareg FINAL EDITION replaces the outgoing Black Edition, and the Touareg R FINAL EDITION replaces the standard R model, while the regular Touareg Elegance continues to be sold from existing stock only. Volkswagen frames the cars as a send-off for a nameplate sold in 39 countries and more than 1.2 million units since 2002. Volkswagen UK Director Rod McLeod described them as combining "the usual Touareg elegance with punchy performance and generous features.
