The 2026 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro Black Edition rides on 19-inch Onyx black alloy wheels and gains a standard panoramic glass roof over lower trims.
It uses an 84kWh high-voltage battery with DC charging support and rear-wheel drive, part of a range Volkswagen updated with bigger batteries in early 2026.
Interior upgrades over base ID.4 trims include power-adjustable front seats with memory, massage function and Top-Sport Plus seat inserts.
Volkswagen's UK press pack for the ID.4, dated May 2026, lays out the full trim walk for its electric SUV, and the Pro Black Edition sits in the upper-middle of that range — one step below the performance-focused GTX Edition. It's the version that trades some of the base car's plainness for black exterior trim and a longer options list, without going all-in on sportiness.
Exterior design observations
Black is the theme here, unsurprisingly. The Pro Black Edition gets black exterior mirror housings, black roof rails, and a roof trim strip and rear pillar finished in high-gloss black, along with a black nameplate on the tailgate. Matrix LED headlights come as standard, along with LED rear tail lights that carry a dynamic turn signal. A panoramic glass roof is fitted as standard on this trim — something lower Pro grades don't get — and the rear glass carries a heavier tint from the B-pillar back. Wheels are 19-inch Onyx alloys, finished in black with self-aligning hub caps carrying the VW logo.
Vehicle proportions and stance
The wider ID.4 range measures up to 4,584mm long with a wheelbase of up to 2,773mm, figures that put it close to the Tayron despite a noticeably shorter overall footprint. The MEB platform's short overhangs and flat underfloor battery pack free up cabin space that Volkswagen says rivals SUVs from the next class up.
Interior space and technology
Inside, the Pro Black Edition swaps the cloth-trimmed seats of lower grades for Top-Sport Plus seats in ArtVelours microfleece, with power adjustment, memory settings and seat-depth adjustment for both front occupants — plus power-adjustable lumbar support with a massage function. The dashboard runs Volkswagen's IDA voice assistant and a central touchscreen. Wireless smartphone charging, wireless App-Connect and six-speaker 140W audio are standard. Ambient lighting runs to 30 colours, though notably without the ID. Light strip that appears on higher trims.
Powertrain or performance details
The Pro Black Edition uses an 84kWh high-voltage battery paired with rear-wheel drive, sending power through a single-speed gearbox to the rear axle. DC charging on this battery size tops out at 165kW, enough for a 10-80 per cent top-up in around 29 minutes, according to Volkswagen's broader ID.4 figures. , though the wider range spans 190 to 340PS depending on motor and battery combination.
Practical usability features
Boot space across the ID.4 range is rated at 533 litres, rising to 1,565 litres with the rear seats folded, and roof rails are fitted as standard with a 75kg load limit. The Pro Black Edition also gets an electric tailgate with virtual pedal activation, keyless entry and starting, and a two-zone climate system. Front Assist autonomous braking, Lane Assist and adaptive cruise control are all standard.
Market positioning
Volkswagen has been the UK's best-selling new-car brand for five years running, and the ID.4 remains its main electric SUV offering as the range gets a mid-cycle refresh.
