2026 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado VX-L
By Lorenzo Bianchi February 9, 2026
The VX L is back as a high-end, road-focused Prado grade.
The VX L is easily distinguished from the off-road-focused VX R by its exterior and interior design.
Its position in the lineup is defined by its enhanced cabin features and adaptive variable suspension.
VX L Joins the Upcoming Prado Models
The VX L grade has been brought back into the lineup of Toyota South Africa's New Generation Land Cruiser Prado.
Absent since the previous-generation model, the VX L returns following the Prado’s successful 2024 launch, adding a more comfort-oriented option to the lineup.
With its return, the Prado range now consists of three grades: TX, VX R, and VX L. The structure is deliberate. Rather than stretching one model to satisfy every buyer, Toyota has split the range along clear lines of use and expectation.
Unambiguous Function in the Prado Family
These days, each Prado grade corresponds to a distinct owner type. The TX remains the entry-level model, offering the core Land Cruiser attributes of durability and versatility at a lower cost.
The VX R continues to serve the traditional Prado customer, with specifications and finishes that reflect an off-road-first mindset.
The 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado VX L is aimed elsewhere. Toyota positions it for customers who spend most of their time on-road and place greater value on comfort, refinement, and premium detailing, while still wanting the reassurance of Prado’s proven all-terrain capability.
Exterior Differentiation Through Detail
From the outside, the VX L does not attempt to redefine the Prado’s shape. The upright stance and solid proportions remain unchanged. Instead, the distinction comes through finish and scale. The VX L rides on 20-inch alloy wheels, compared to the 18-inch wheels fitted to the TX and VX R. Body-coloured exterior mouldings replace the tougher, darker trim used on the VX R, and the rear bumper is painted rather than functional in appearance.
Illuminated side steps add a subtle premium touch, reinforcing the VX L’s more polished character. It still looks like a Prado, but one clearly tailored for paved roads and daily use rather than constant trail work.
Interior Focus on Refinement
The same approach continues inside. The VX L introduces silver metallic interior accents, contrasting with the titanium-finish elements used in the VX R. A JBL 14-speaker audio system replaces the 10-speaker setup found in the more rugged grade, and the leather door trim gains additional stitching to lift perceived quality.
These changes are not dramatic, but they are intentional. The cabin feels calmer and more resolved, aligning with the VX L’s role as the most refined Prado available.
Suspension, Connectivity, and Pricing
Adaptive Variable Suspension is standard on the VX L, delivering a more composed and comfortable on-road driving experience compared with the off-road-focused setup of the VX R.
Like all new Toyota vehicles in South Africa, the Prado VX L includes connected services via the MyToyota platform. Owners can access vehicle information, in-car Wi-Fi with a complimentary 25GB data allocation, and additional Toyota Connect features by opting in.
Pricing places the Prado 2.8GD VX L at R1,513,300, positioning it at the top of the local Prado range and reflecting its higher specification and comfort-led focus.
