2026 Toyota Hilux BEV
By Lorenzo Bianchi November 10, 2025
The 2026 Toyota Hilux BEV is the first fully electric Hilux and part of Toyota’s multi-path powertrain strategy.
Features a 59.2 kWh battery, dual-motor permanent all-wheel drive and approx. 240 km WLTP range.
- Maintains the ladder-frame chassis and off-road capability, with towing capacity of around 1,600 kg.
Evolution of a Global Icon
When the 2026 Toyota Hilux BEV
was announced, Toyota signalled more than a facelift — this is a
strategic pivot for an icon. The ninth-generation Hilux moves toward
electrification with a full battery-electric version and retains a
multi-powertrain approach including petrol, diesel and hybrid for
different markets.
The BEV variant preserves the truck’s ladder-frame construction and four-wheel drive layout, aiming to marry rugged durability with zero-emissions capability.
Design and Architecture
Visually,
the new Hilux keeps the hard-working silhouette that has served it
globally, but with modern touches. The BEV version omits the
conventional grille, replacing it with an aero-optimised front end and
dedicated alloy wheels.
The body style simplifies to the Double Cab layout — the most popular globally — and the stance is broad and purposeful. Roof rails, side steps and a redesigned rear deck step underline the utility emphasis. Inside, the cabin is elevated: a 12.3-inch driver display merges with a media touchscreen, while AWD and off-road controls sit centrally for ease of operation.
Electric Powertrain and Capability
Under the skin, the BEV uses a 59.2 kWh lithium-ion battery, powering a front and rear e-axle. Combined output sits around 144 kW, and Toyota estimates a WLTP range of approximately 240 km.
Although full details are limited, towing capacity is cited at 1,600 kg, and payload around 715 kg . Toyota confirms the ladder-frame remains and off-road credentials are retained, including wading depth and durability features from the internal-combustion models.
