2026 Toyota Corolla Hatchback FX Edition
By Lorenzo Bianchi August 29, 2025
The FX Edition revives the 1987 Corolla FX16 theme with gloss-white 18-inch wheels, a black vented rear wing, and heritage badging.
It uses the standard 2.0-liter Dynamic Force engine, delivering 169 hp and 151 lb-ft, with a CVT and front-wheel drive—no change in performance.
Limited to 1,600 units, it brings visual flair and added interior touches like orange-stitched Sport Touring seats, a 7-inch digital cluster, and safety upgrades.
Nostalgia Meets Modern Hatchback Appeal
Toyota has refreshed the Corolla Hatchback lineup for 2026 with the FX Edition, a trim that injects retro personality into a popular compact. Drawing from the first-gen FX16, this special model blends visual heritage cues with today’s Corolla engineering. It stands out in the lineup, offering a spirited alternative without diverging mechanically from the rest of the SE grade .
The FX Edition visually kicks things up a notch. Gloss-white 18-inch alloy wheels with contrasting black lug nuts underline its retro intentions. A black vented rear wing isn’t just for the look—it suggests aerodynamic consideration. And the rear gets a specially designed badge recalling the Corolla Special Edition script from the 1980s. Available finishes include vibrant Fiorno orange (Inferno), Ice Cap white, and Blue Crush Metallic.
Power and Efficiency Unchanged — By Design
Underneath the nostalgic trim, Toyota retains the familiar 2.0-liter Dynamic Force inline-four engine, yielding 169 hp at 6,600 rpm and 151 lb-ft at 4,800 rpm, routed through a smooth CVT to deliver front-wheel drive. Fuel efficiency remains solid, with an estimated 33 mpg combined—a balance between sporty feel and Corolla’s practical reputation.
Step inside, and FX-specific accents continue the retro theme. New Sport Touring seats bring suede inserts and bold orange contrast stitching, carrying over to the steering wheel, shifter boot, and door trim. A standard 7-inch digital gauge cluster offers configurable layouts, adding modern function to the sporty touch. The hatchback sticks with the familiar 8-inch multimedia touchscreen, unlike its sedan counterpart, though it gains wireless phone charging.
Safety Tech and Connectivity Upgraded
Safety remains central: all Corolla Hatchbacks, FX Edition included, feature Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 with its full suite—pre-collision detection, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, automatic high beams, and road sign recognition. For 2026, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert are now standard across the hatchback lineup, elevating its everyday usability.
Connectivity is comprehensive: wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, dual Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hotspot trial, and the option for Toyota’s Intelligent Assistant voice control keep it current.
Production is deliberately capped—Toyota will build only 1,600 units of the FX Edition for the U.S. market. The number is a nod to the 1600cc engine that powered the original FX16, anchoring the retro tie-in in a tangible way.
Toyota has priced the FX Edition between the SE and GR Corolla, targeting buyers seeking visual flair without stepping into hot-hatch pricing territory. The FX carries a $27,975 MSRP, above the SE’s $25,375 and comfortably below the GR’s $38,860 . Its place in the lineup is clear: a fun, limited-edition hatchback that brings style without increasing performance cost.
