2026 Toyota C-HR XSE

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Dual-motor AWD with 338 combined system horsepower.

  • EPA-estimated 273-mile range on XSE with 20-inch wheels.

  • 74.7-kWh battery with NACS port and 10–80% fast charge in ~30 minutes under ideal conditions.

Coupe Like Proportions on e TNGA Platform

The 2026 Toyota C-HR XSE enters the market as part of Toyota’s expanding battery electric lineup. Built on the dedicated e-TNGA BEV platform, the compact SUV carries a wide, athletic stance and a pronounced coupe silhouette.

The hammerhead front fascia flows into a tightly drawn cabin and sharply defined rear, giving the C-HR a planted posture that reads more performance hatch than traditional crossover.

Overall dimensions reinforce that impression. The C-HR measures 177.9 inches in length with a 108.3-inch wheelbase, 73.6 inches in width and 63.8 inches in height. The proportions are compact, yet the packaging remains practical. Cargo capacity reaches up to 25.3 cubic feet behind the rear seats and up to 59.5 cubic feet with them folded flat.

On the XSE grade, 20-inch gunmetal-finished wheels visually fill the arches and subtly reduce the quoted EPA-estimated range to 273 miles. The SE, by comparison, is rated at 287 miles on 18-inch wheels.

Dual Motor Output and Acceleration

Performance is central to the 2026 Toyota C-HR XSE. Dual electric motors, housed in front and rear eAxles, deliver a combined 338 horsepower with standard electronic all-wheel drive. Toyota cites a manufacturer-estimated 0–60 mph time of 4.9 seconds.

The underfloor-mounted 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery contributes to a low center of gravity. Toyota notes additional cross-framing around the battery structure for rigidity, with suspension components specifically tuned for the C-HR, including spring and damper performance and anti-roll bar stiffness. The result, on paper, suggests a compact BEV engineered with attention to balance rather than straight-line figures alone.

Charging Hardware and Battery Management

The 2026 Toyota C-HR XSE is equipped with a North American Charging System port as standard, providing access to a broad network of DC fast-charging and Level 2 stations. Under ideal conditions, the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in around 30 minutes when using DC fast charging.

An 11-kW onboard AC charger and dual-voltage 120V/240V charging cable are included.

Plug & Charge capability and battery preconditioning are also integrated, the latter designed to optimize battery temperature for faster DC charging when navigating to a charging station.

Paddle shifters mounted behind the steering wheel allow drivers to adjust regenerative braking across four levels.

XSE Interior and Connected Technology

Inside, the C-HR XSE carries a clean, horizontal layout with a slim driver’s display and 14-inch touchscreen running Toyota Audio Multimedia. Dual wireless smartphone chargers and four USB-C ports support connectivity. SofTex and synthetic suede-trimmed seats distinguish the XSE, alongside an eight-way power passenger seat and driver memory function.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard across the range, joined by features such as Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Safe Exit Alert. Traffic Jam Assist and Lane Change Assist are also listed for the XSE grade.

Market Context

The 2026 Toyota C-HR XSE becomes Toyota’s third BEV in the U.S. lineup and part of a broader 21-model electrified portfolio.

It markets itself as a small electric SUV with mainstream usefulness and quantifiable performance credentials. The C-HR XSE relies on its competitive range, balanced proportions, and well-established brand trust in a market increasingly characterized by dual-motor variants and fast-charging claims.
