2026 Toyota C-HR GR Sport European Version

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • The 2026 Toyota C HR GR Sport can now be specified across all powertrains.

  • Toyota has sold more than 2.1 million C HR models globally since 2016.

  • Hybrid and plug in hybrid technology remain central to the European lineup.

A Familiar Shape That Still Turns Heads

Ten years after it first appeared on European roads, the Toyota C HR remains one of the most recognizable crossovers in its segment. The original model arrived in 2016 with a design that looked very different from the practical family SUVs that dominated the market at the time.

That formula has largely remained intact. Sharp surfacing, a coupe influenced roofline, and a wide stance continue to define the current generation. According to Toyota, styling remains one of the biggest reasons customers choose the vehicle, helping the C HR maintain strong sales throughout its first decade. More than 1.2 million examples have been sold in Europe and over 2.1 million globally.

For 2026, Toyota has chosen refinement over reinvention.

GR Sport Now Reaches More Buyers

The headline change for the 2026 Toyota C HR GR Sport European Version is availability. Previously restricted to selected configurations, the GR SPORT grade can now be paired with all powertrain options offered in the range.

Toyota has not detailed additional performance modifications in this announcement, but the broader availability means buyers no longer need to select a specific powertrain to access the sportier trim level.

The move should make the GR SPORT version more accessible to customers who prefer either hybrid or plug in hybrid technology while still wanting the trim's distinctive appearance and positioning within the lineup.

European Design Remains Central To The Formula

The current generation C HR was conceived, engineered, and produced with European customers in mind. It continues to feature details such as flush door handles, a panoramic roof design, and a digital cockpit layout. Toyota also highlights its 64 colour ambient lighting system as part of the cabin experience.

Inside, the crossover maintains a driver focused layout that helped define both generations of the model. The overall approach feels closer to a sporty hatchback than a traditional SUV, something that has been part of the C HR's identity since launch.

Electrified Powertrains Continue To Lead

Every version of the 2026 Toyota C HR remains electrified. Buyers can choose from hybrid and plug in hybrid powertrains using Toyota's latest hybrid technology.

The plug in hybrid sits at the top of the range and offers an electric driving range of up to 66 km on the WLTP cycle, or around 100 km in urban conditions. Toyota's geo fencing technology also remains available, allowing the vehicle to automatically manage battery usage and driving modes based on route information and low emission zones.

As it enters its second decade on sale, the C HR continues to occupy a distinctive position in Toyota's European lineup. The 2026 updates are relatively small, but expanding GR SPORT across the full range gives buyers more choice while preserving the character that made the crossover successful in the first place.
