2026 Toyota bZ4X Touring South African Version

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • The bZ4X Touring is longer, taller and more practical than the standard bZ4X.

  • A dual-motor AWD system delivers 334 kW and a 0–100 km/h time of 4.3 seconds.

  • A 74.69 kWh battery provides an estimated driving range of up to 487 km.

The 2026 Toyota bZ4X Touring South African Version builds on the standard bZ4X with a stronger focus on versatility. It remains a battery-electric SUV at its core, but Toyota has stretched the formula to suit buyers who regularly travel beyond city streets and need additional space for family holidays, outdoor activities and longer journeys.

Sharing the same dedicated e-TNGA platform as the standard model, the Touring introduces a larger body, more luggage capacity and additional performance, giving Toyota two distinct electric SUVs rather than two versions separated only by equipment.

Designed For Bigger Adventures

At first glance, the Touring looks noticeably more rugged.

Toyota has given it a revised front bumper, stronger lower body treatment, raised roof rails and a thicker rear light bar. Those changes don't dramatically alter the vehicle's identity, but they give it a broader and more purposeful stance. The body is also 140 mm longer and 70 mm taller than the standard bZ4X, while ground clearance increases to 216 mm, helping reinforce its more adventurous character.

The extra length isn't simply for appearance. A longer rear overhang creates additional luggage space, making the Touring a more practical choice for extended trips and outdoor gear. Both versions ride on 20-inch alloy wheels with distinctive resin detailing that adds another visual difference.

Cabin Prioritises Space And Everyday Comfort

Toyota describes the interior as an "Activity Hub," and the layout reflects that idea.

A 14-inch multimedia touchscreen sits at the centre of the dashboard, joined by a 7-inch digital instrument display positioned high in the driver's line of sight. Wireless charging, a shift-by-wire selector and a digital rear-view mirror contribute to the clean layout, while leather upholstery, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and a panoramic roof are fitted as standard.

The Touring's larger cargo area is one of its biggest advantages, giving owners additional flexibility without increasing cabin complexity.

More Power And Longer Range

The 2026 Toyota bZ4X Touring South African Version receives a 74.69 kWh lithium-ion battery, slightly larger than the pack fitted to the standard model. Toyota estimates a driving range of 462 to 487 km, while DC fast charging can replenish the battery from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 30 minutes under ideal conditions.

Performance also receives a noticeable increase. Dual electric motors produce a combined 334 kW, allowing the Touring to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds before reaching a top speed of 180 km/h. The all-wheel-drive system works alongside X-Mode, Grip Control and Downhill Assist Control to improve confidence on gravel roads and other low-grip surfaces.

Toyota's Flagship Electric SUV

The Touring sits at the top of Toyota's South African electric SUV range. Standard equipment includes Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, JBL premium audio, Intelligent Park Assist, LED headlamps with Adaptive High Beam, connected services and a panoramic roof, while Touring-exclusive features include raised roof rails and an integrated camera washer. Pricing starts at R1,317,700, with Toyota also including a six-year/90,000 km service plan, a three-year/100,000 km warranty and an eight-year/160,000 km battery warranty.
