  • Toyota Genuine rock rails, a Prinsu roof rack with accessory panels and a Thule Pulse 2 cargo box equip the 4Runner for backcountry travel.

Toyota 4Runner Snowhunter Concept Heads to SEMA 2026

Toyota has introduced the 2026 Toyota 4Runner Snowhunter Concept as part of a five-vehicle collection developed for the 2026 SEMA Show.

The project imagines how Toyota's body-on-frame SUVs could be adapted for winter exploration, particularly where deep snow limits conventional off-road travel.

Developed under the direction of CALTY Design Research in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the Snowhunter family also includes modified versions of the Tundra, Tacoma, Land Cruiser and Sequoia.

Custom Camouflage and Winter Focused Exterior

The 4Runner Snowhunter adopts the same visual treatment used across Toyota's five winter concepts.

Bespoke Snowhunter camouflage covers the bodywork, accompanied by dedicated badging and gloss-black exterior accents.

Rigid lighting provides additional illumination for remote driving conditions.

The design retains the 4Runner's SUV identity while introducing equipment intended for snow-covered terrain rather than conventional roads.

Snow Tracks and Raised Off Road Stance

The most noticeable modification is the replacement of traditional wheels with white powder-coated snow tracks.

The track assemblies give the 4Runner a different stance, with their extended contact surfaces positioned beneath the body.

Toyota Genuine Parts and TRD lift components are included across the Snowhunter lineup, supporting the raised configuration.

The concept is intended to demonstrate how a body-on-frame SUV could be equipped for winter routes beyond regularly maintained roads.

Roof Cargo Equipment and Exterior Protection

The 4Runner Snowhunter carries Toyota Genuine rock rails for additional lower-body protection.

A Prinsu roof rack with accessory panels provides mounting points for expedition equipment, while a Thule Pulse 2 cargo box adds enclosed storage.

These components distinguish the 4Runner from other Snowhunter builds, which use different arrangements of racks, accessories and recovery equipment.

The additional storage capacity is intended to support longer backcountry journeys where carrying equipment becomes an important consideration.

Interior and Powertrain Details

Toyota's announcement focuses on the exterior conversion rather than changes to the passenger compartment.

The available material does not confirm modified seats, dashboard equipment, infotainment features or additional interior storage [Unverified].

Engine specifications, transmission details and drivetrain modifications specific to the Snowhunter conversion are also not disclosed [Unverified].

Toyota has not published acceleration figures or measured performance data for the tracked configuration.

A Special Prototype Rather Than a Production Model

The 4Runner Snowhunter forms part of Toyota's broader SEMA display exploring winter-ready trucks and SUVs.

Unlike a production trim level, the concept is a specially modified prototype intended to demonstrate possible expedition configurations.

Toyota cautions that some installed components may affect safety, performance or warranty coverage, and the vehicles may not be street legal.
