2026 Tesla Roadster Concept

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • The 2026 Tesla Roadster Concept introduces a substantially redesigned exterior with sharper, more angular bodywork, replacing the rounded styling of the original 2017 Tesla Roadster concept.

  • Tesla claims the 2026 Tesla Roadster Concept achieved 0–60 mph in 0.81 seconds during a demonstration, using cold-gas thrusters and an aerodynamic system reportedly generating up to 2G of stationary downforce.

  • The Tesla Roadster Concept range includes Performance, Thrust and Rocket configurations, with production planned for 2028.

2026 Tesla Roadster Concept Revealed With New Design

The 2026 Tesla Roadster Concept has made another public appearance, nearly nine years after Tesla presented its original second-generation electric sports car concept in 2017.

This time, the American manufacturer brought a substantially redesigned vehicle, accompanied by a demonstration involving acceleration, vertical driving and controlled aerial manoeuvres.

During the presentation, the 2026 Tesla Roadster Concept climbed a vertical ramp, travelled across an overhead section and later performed a barrel roll using its thruster system.

Tesla also claimed a 0–60 mph acceleration time of 0.81 seconds.

The demonstration provided a closer look at the technologies under development, although the vehicle remains a concept rather than a production-ready electric sports car.

Angular Exterior Replaces the 2017 Tesla Roadster Design

The 2026 Tesla Roadster Concept moves away from the softer, rounded surfaces seen on the original 2017 prototype.

Its redesigned body features sharper angles, geometric surfacing and a more aggressive sports car appearance.

The aerodynamic system offers high and low downforce settings, allowing the vehicle to adapt its aerodynamic behaviour.

Exact exterior dimensions, wheelbase measurements and wheel specifications have not been disclosed.

SpaceX Thrusters and Active Aerodynamics Explained

One of the defining features of the 2026 Tesla Roadster Concept is its combination of underbody suction fans and cold-gas thrusters.

According to the supplied report, the fans can produce up to 2G of downforce while the vehicle remains stationary.

Ten cold-gas thrusters provide additional control, enabling the aerial manoeuvres demonstrated during the presentation.

The system reportedly uses compressed atmospheric air stored in two 600-litre tanks.

Tesla describes the arrangement as capable of replenishing its air supply during operation.

The technology is associated with Tesla's collaboration with SpaceX, extending the concept beyond conventional electric sports car engineering.

Tesla Roadster Concept Interior and Driving Technology

Tesla has provided limited information about the 2026 Tesla Roadster Concept interior.

The final dashboard layout, infotainment system and passenger accommodation have not been confirmed.

However, the manufacturer has indicated that the vehicle will incorporate steer-by-wire, brake-by-wire and throttle-by-wire systems.

Brembo Sensify braking technology and control arrangements similar to those used in the Tesla Cybertruck could appear in the production version.

These components remain unconfirmed in the supplied material.

0.81 Second Acceleration and 2028 Production Timeline

The 2026 Tesla Roadster Concept reportedly completed the 0–60 mph sprint in 0.81 seconds during Tesla's demonstration.

That figure remains a manufacturer-reported result rather than an independently verified production performance measurement.

Tesla has not disclosed electric motor output, battery capacity, driving range or the final drivetrain configuration.

Three configurations are listed: Performance, Thrust and Rocket.

The Performance version requires a $50,000 deposit, while the Thrust configuration is listed at $250,000. The single-seat Rocket version is offered by invitation only.
