The Tata Osprey is the South African market name for the Tata Nexon, launched in partnership with Motus Holdings.
Four variants are offered, with manual and DCA transmission choices and pricing from R249,900 to R329,900.
Equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, Bi LED headlights, six airbags and a 360 degree HD Surround View System.
The 2026 Tata Osprey marks another step in Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles' return to South Africa. Known internationally as the Tata Nexon, the compact SUV arrives locally with a different badge, four variants and a starting price of R249,900.
The Osprey joins the Harrier, Curvv, Punch and Tiago in Tata's South African range. Its launch also coincides with the introduction of the company's new customer facing TATA.CARS identity.
Familiar Nexon Design Gets an Osprey Badge
Tata describes the Osprey as having a strong SUV stance. The equipment list includes Bi LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and X Graphic full LED taillights, giving the front and rear their main lighting signatures.
There are 16 inch alloy wheels, while higher equipment levels bring a panoramic sunroof. The supplied press release does not identify any Osprey specific bodywork changes compared with the internationally sold Nexon.
Digital Instruments Lead the Cabin Technology
Inside, the Osprey gets a 26.03 cm digital instrument cluster alongside a touch based control panel. Wireless phone charging, push button start with passive entry and cruise control are also available, along with both Type A and Type C USB charging ports.
Automatic climate control and a cooled glovebox address the everyday side of the package. Tata describes the cabin as spacious, although passenger and luggage capacity figures are not provided.
Powertrain Specifications Remain Limited
Tata's South African announcement confirms manual and DCA transmission choices through the model lineup, but it does not provide engine displacement, output, torque, acceleration or fuel consumption figures.
The Smart+ MT opens the range at R249,900, followed by the Smart+ DCA at R279,900. Creative DCA costs R309,900, while the Creative+ PS DCA sits at the top at R329,900.
Six Airbags and 360 Degree Cameras
Safety equipment is more comprehensively detailed. Six airbags and electronic stability control are joined by tyre pressure monitoring, front parking sensors, automatic headlights and rain sensing wipers.
A 360 degree HD Surround View System also incorporates a Blind View Monitor. Tata links the Osprey to the Nexon's safety history, noting that the Nexon was the first made in India car to achieve a five star Global NCAP rating.
The Osprey enters a busy South African compact SUV market, though Tata does not name specific rivals in the release. Its positioning instead centers on equipment and price, with four variants covering a relatively narrow R80,000 spread from entry model to flagship.
