Suzuki updated the five-door Jimny Nomade with safety upgrades.
The model now includes modern ADAS and an optional 9-inch display.
The 1.5-liter engine and ladder-frame chassis remain unchanged.
A Five Door Jimny With Minimal Visual Interference
Suzuki has approached the 2026 Jimny Nomade with restraint. From the outside, the five-door silhouette remains immediately recognisable, its upright glasshouse and short overhangs reinforcing the vehicle’s functional intent. At 3,890 mm in length, the Nomade still reads as compact, even with the added rear doors.
Changes are limited but deliberate. A newly integrated sensor above the front bumper intake signals the arrival of updated driver assistance systems, while a fresh Granite Gray Metallic paint option expands the palette to seven colours. Otherwise, surfaces, proportions, and stance are carried over unchanged. The design continues to prioritise clarity over polish, a quality that has defined the Jimny line for decades.
Cabin Updates That Focus on Use, Not Theatre
Inside, the most visible change is the availability of a 9-inch infotainment display. It supports smartphone connectivity, built-in navigation, and a rear-view camera, addressing one of the few areas where the Jimny previously felt dated. The standard instrument cluster now incorporates a 4.2-inch colour multi-information display between analogue dials, providing clearer vehicle data without overcomplicating the layout.
Smaller revisions add up. LED interior lighting is now standard, the steering wheel gains integrated audio and phone controls, and a covered USB port has been added to the front tray. The cabin remains upright and functional, with no attempt to disguise the Jimny Nomade’s utilitarian roots. Materials and switchgear still feel chosen for durability rather than decoration, consistent with the vehicle’s positioning.
Mechanical Continuity Anchors the Update
Suzuki has left the mechanical package untouched. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine continues, producing 75 kW and 130 Nm. Buyers can still choose between a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission, both paired with Suzuki’s part-time four-wheel-drive system.
The ladder-frame chassis remains central to the Jimny Nomade’s appeal. It defines how the vehicle sits on the road and off it, prioritising articulation and durability over refinement. In an era where compact SUVs increasingly abandon traditional hardware, Suzuki’s decision to retain this setup feels intentional rather than conservative.
Expanded Safety Systems Reflect Regulatory Pressure
The most meaningful changes sit beneath the skin. The 2026 Jimny Nomade adopts Suzuki’s Dual Sensor Brake Support II system, adding low-speed brake assist, lane departure alerts and intervention, and enhanced traffic sign recognition. Adaptive cruise control has been added to automatic models, and all models have front and rear parking sensors.
The Jimny Nomade now more closely complies with contemporary safety standards thanks to these modifications, especially in Japan where laws are becoming more stringent. Importantly, the systems are layered onto the existing platform without altering its fundamental character.
Positioning and Market Reality
In Japan, pricing starts at ¥2,926,000, reflecting a notable increase over the outgoing model. Demand remains strong enough that Suzuki is again resorting to a lottery system for early orders, with production scheduled to begin mid-year.
The five-door Jimny Nomade continues to occupy a niche few rivals address directly. While small SUVs increasingly chase urban buyers, Suzuki’s compact off-roader remains unapologetically purpose-built. This update does not change that. It simply makes the formula easier to live with.
