2026 Subaru Solterra Australian Version

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • 252 kW dual-motor powertrain with Subaru Symmetrical AWD.

  • WLTP range up to 566 km and faster 22 kW AC charging.

  • Refined cabin with new 14-inch display and 64-color ambient lighting.

Subaru Strengthens Its EV Footing

The 2026 Subaru Solterra Australian Version marks a meaningful step forward for the brand’s first all-electric SUV. While the nameplate debuted as a cautious foray into electrification, the MY26 update arrives sharper, stronger, and more grounded in Subaru’s long-standing ethos of real-world capability

Visually, the refreshed Solterra keeps the familiar, balanced proportions of its predecessor but adopts a leaner look. A new bumper design, sleeker headlamps, and reworked rear garnish tighten its surfaces, while new 18- or 20-inch alloy wheels give it a stronger stance. Subaru’s subtle body sculpting maintains a sense of athleticism without chasing trends — a reminder that function still drives form here.

More Power, Greater Efficiency

The 2026 update brings substantial engineering gains. The dual-motor setup now delivers 252 kW, a 57 percent increase in power over the outgoing model, paired with Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system.

That’s matched to a larger 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery, extending the WLTP range to 566 km for the standard AWD and 517 km for the Touring trim.

Charging performance improves too — Subaru’s engineers have doubled the AC charging rate from 11 to 22 kW, cutting full charge time to about four hours using a three-phase setup. Rapid charging via a 150 kW DC charger gets the battery from 0 to 80 percent in approximately 30 minutes, according to verified data from Subaru Australia.

The platform itself, the e-Subaru Global Platform (e-SGP), has been reworked for quieter operation, better balance, and improved energy efficiency. With 212 mm of ground clearance, Dual Mode X-Mode, and Drive Mode Select, the Solterra remains capable on unsealed terrain — a quality that helps it stand apart in a segment increasingly filled with urban-focused EVs.

Cabin Technology and Design

Inside, Subaru has put focus on texture, visibility, and usability. A new 14-inch infotainment screen dominates the dash, paired with a 7-inch driver display. Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and dual wireless phone chargers come standard. Lighting plays a surprisingly large role too — a 64-color ambient system now adapts to drive modes, adding a sense of sophistication rare in this class.

The Touring variant adds luxury cues like a panoramic glass roof, ventilated seats, and a Harman Kardon 10-speaker audio system. Acoustic glass and updated suspension tuning bring measurable gains in refinement at highway speeds.

Safety remains extensive, including Subaru Safety Sense with Pre-Collision Braking, Emergency Steering Assist, and a new Multi-Terrain Monitor for off-road visibility. Subaru’s Driver Monitoring System and Advanced Park Assist further underline the brand’s focus on tech-driven security.

At $63,990 MLP for the base AWD and $69,990 for the Touring trim, the new Solterra lands in a competitive zone against models like the Toyota bZ4X and Hyundai Ioniq 5. But few electric SUVs combine range, traction, and proven all-weather composure the way Subaru’s system does.
