2026 RUF Automobile Tribute

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Powered by a 3.6-liter air-cooled twin-turbo flat-six delivering 550 hp and 750 Nm of torque.

  • Built on a lightweight tubular and carbon chassis with double-wishbone suspension and integrated roll cage.

  • A bespoke, limited-production supercar that honors RUF’s analog heritage while embracing modern engineering.

A Reverent Return to Air-Cooled

Few names in the sports car world are as closely linked to Porsche’s legacy as RUF. But with the new Tribute, unveiled for 2026, the company has gone beyond tuning or reinterpretation. This car is built from the ground up to honor the defining era of air-cooled performance, reimagined through the lens of contemporary engineering.

From its proportions to its engineering details, the Tribute feels like a deliberate callback to the character that made air-cooled Porsches so special—yet it doesn’t retreat into nostalgia. Instead, it applies the lessons of motorsport and modern supercar construction to deliver something both familiar and new.

The Engine at the Heart of It

Under the rear deck sits a 3.6-liter air-cooled flat-six—a configuration once thought relegated to the history books. RUF has engineered this unit to be far more than a tribute piece.

Dual overhead camshafts with three valves per cylinder

  • Variable valve timing and lift
  • Twin turbochargers with intercoolers
  • Dry-sump lubrication

The result is a motor producing 550 hp (405 kW) at 6,750 rpm and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) at 4,500 rpm. Management is handled by Bosch electronics, with fly-by-wire throttle and hydraulic valve adjustment ensuring responsiveness and durability.

It’s a rare example of an air-cooled design meeting modern performance and emissions standards—a feat that underscores RUF’s engineering persistence.

Chassis and Dynamics

The Tribute doesn’t share its underpinnings with any production Porsche. Instead, it rides on a tubular steel chassis with integrated roll cage, wrapped in carbon-fiber bodywork for both rigidity and weight savings.

Suspension is handled by double-wishbone setups with horizontally mounted dampers, a layout straight from racing. This not only reduces unsprung weight but sharpens control and precision. RUF quotes a curb weight under 1,300 kg, a figure that positions the car well below most modern supercars in mass.

The expectation is agility and driver connection, qualities that defined early RUF cars and which remain central to the company’s philosophy.

Design and Proportion

Visually, the Tribute strikes a balance between reverence and innovation. Its silhouette nods to the golden age of 911 design, with clean surfaces, upright glass, and purposeful stance. But materials and detailing move into the present: carbon fiber panels, carefully honed aerodynamics, and subtle but effective updates that ensure stability at speed.

The car is neither retro recreation nor futuristic abstraction—it sits in that narrow, intentional space where form and function align with heritage.
