A Commission with Heart
The Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective has long specialized in turning client stories into rolling art. The Spectre Bailey may be its most heartfelt yet—a one-off commission created for a U.S.-based couple, honoring their Labrador-Golden Retriever mix.
Handled through the Private Office New York, the project represents more than personalization; it embodies affection, memory, and the intimate possibilities of true luxury.
Exterior: A Coat of Character
For this project, paint specialists at Goodwood developed an iridescent two-tone finish. The lower bodywork wears Beautiful Bailey, a bespoke hue inspired by the dog’s ear fur, while the upper section glimmers in Crystal Fusion, shifting tone as light moves across the car.
Adding to the subtle whimsy, Bailey’s paw print is reproduced along the Coachline in hand-painted Rose Gold, matching the Spirit of Ecstasy figurine—another playful, deeply personal flourish.
Interior: Veneer as Portrait
Step inside and the commission’s depth becomes unmistakable. The cabin is finished in Moccasin and Crème Light leather, accented by Dark Spice and Casden Tan shades. Surfaces are veneered in High Gloss Royal Walnut, a canvas for artisanship.
At the heart of it all lies the rear waterfall marquetry, depicting Bailey in lifelike detail. This work, requiring more than four months, integrates over 180 pieces of natural veneer—no staining, only the natural hues of carefully chosen woods. Bailey’s tongue alone required four veneers never before used in a Rolls-Royce: Purple Heart, Tulipwood, Louro Faia, and Pear.
In total, nine veneers and 22 shades create a portrait of warmth and realism that defies expectations of what automotive interior design can achieve.
Paw Prints in the Details
On the passenger side of the dashboard, Bailey’s paw appears again in marquetry. The motif repeats on Bespoke Rose Gold treadplates, only visible as doors swing open. It’s this blend of grandeur and subtle delight—an invitation to pause, smile, and remember—that defines the commission’s tone.
Phil Fabre de la Grange, Head of Bespoke at Rolls-Royce, described the project as “a playful yet timeless manner, reflecting the special place Bailey holds in their hearts.”
Spectre Bailey in Context
The Spectre is Rolls-Royce’s first fully electric model, and in Bailey form, it remains technically unaltered. The WLTP figures speak for themselves: 329 miles (530 km) of range, consumption of 2.6–2.8 mi/kWh, and zero CO2 emissions. For a car so deeply about legacy and memory, its drivetrain future-proofs the sentiment
More broadly, commissions like Spectre Bailey illustrate Rolls-Royce’s philosophy: luxury as narrative. At a time when electrification threatens to flatten personality into numbers, Bespoke reminds us that a car can still be profoundly personal.
