Cummins Power Finally Meets the Power Wagon

Ram has closed one of the longest-running gaps in its heavy-duty lineup. The 2027 Ram Power Wagon Cummins Turbo Diesel arrives as the first Power Wagon to pair its off-road-focused hardware with the brand’s 6.7-liter Cummins High-Output inline-six diesel, delivering 430 horsepower and a best-in-class base diesel torque figure of 1,075 lb-ft.

For years, the Power Wagon stood alone as the gas-only outlier in Ram’s HD family, trading diesel torque for articulation, lockers, and trail durability. That equation has now changed. The Cummins-powered variant retains the model’s off-road identity while expanding its long-distance and towing capability, a move clearly aimed at buyers who want remote-range confidence without stepping up to a conventional Ram 2500.


Exterior Form Driven by Function

Visually, the diesel Power Wagon stays close to the established formula. The proportions remain tall and upright, with a short six-foot-four-inch bed and a crew cab stance that emphasizes wheel travel over visual drama. A sport performance hood, Power Wagon bedside graphics, and Satin Black Cummins badging distinguish it from the gasoline model without overstatement.

Functional details carry the story. Thirty-four-inch all-terrain tires wrap 20-inch wheels, while skid plates protect the fuel tank, DEF system, transfer case, and underbody. Approach and departure angles land just over 26 degrees, with 13.2 inches of ground clearance supporting the truck’s trail-first brief.


Off-Road Hardware Remains the Core

Underneath, the Power Wagon formula remains intact. Front and rear electronic-locking differentials, Bilstein monotube shocks, and a class-exclusive disconnecting front stabilizer bar define its capability envelope. Ram’s five-link coil rear suspension continues to set the truck apart in a segment dominated by leaf springs, balancing articulation with ride control.

New for the diesel variant is a 3.42 rear axle ratio paired with the TorqueFlite HD eight-speed automatic. The gearing is calibrated to manage the Cummins’ torque delivery while improving highway efficiency and towing stability.


Interior Focused on Usability and Range

Inside, the Power Wagon diesel mirrors the broader Ram HD cabin strategy. A 12-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen is standard, with an available 14.5-inch display for buyers prioritizing infotainment scale. Materials skew premium for the segment, but the layout remains practical, with physical controls and clearly defined storage.

A 31-gallon fuel tank supports an estimated 600-mile driving range, reinforcing the truck’s positioning as an overlanding-capable platform rather than a lifestyle showpiece.
