2026 Polestar 5

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • The 2026 Polestar 5 debuts with 748–884 hp, dual-motor AWD, and up to 670 km of WLTP range.

  • Built on Polestar’s new bonded aluminum architecture with 800-volt charging up to 350 kW.

  • Pricing starts around €120,000, aimed at Europe and select markets while skipping North America and China.

A Cleanly Drawn Flagship

Unveiled at the 2025 Munich Auto Show, the Polestar 5 finally steps into production as the Swedish brand’s flagship GT. The proportions are pure grand tourer—long, low, and sleek—with a drag coefficient of 0.24. It’s a car clearly designed to look expensive but not fussy, and it manages to strike that balance.

The silhouette leans coupe-like, but with four doors, it carries everyday usability. The surfacing is tidy, edges are sharp, and the stance broad enough to put it shoulder-to-shoulder with the Porsche Taycan and BMW i5.

Power and Performance

Polestar didn’t pull its punches on output. Two versions will be offered:

  • Dual Motor: 748 hp, 599 lb-ft, 0–60 mph in 3.8 seconds.
  • Performance: 884 hp, 749 lb-ft, 0–60 mph in 3.1 seconds.

Both are electronically capped at 155 mph. Behind it all is an 800-volt electrical system, capable of pulling 350 kW at the plug. Battery capacity sits between 106 and 112 kWh, good for ranges of 565 to 670 km WLTP depending on trim. Real-world charging from 10 to 80 percent takes about 22 minutes.

On paper, it edges past the Taycan Turbo in both output and range, which isn’t a small claim.

The Platform Beneath

What makes the Polestar 5 feel special is less obvious. It’s the first to ride on the company’s bespoke Performance Architecture, a bonded aluminum platform developed in the UK. Lightweight yet rigid, it keeps the car both agile and efficient.

Underneath, double-wishbone suspension in the front, Brembo hardware, and MagneRide adaptive dampers (in the Performance trim) give it the bones of a proper driver’s car, not just a straight-line sprinter.

Inside the Cabin

Polestar’s interiors are known for Scandinavian restraint, and the 5 doubles down. A large 14.5-inch portrait infotainment screen dominates the dash, powered by Google’s Android software. Recaro seats, optional Bowers & Wilkins audio with 21 speakers, and a panoramic glass roof turn it into a rolling lounge.

Sustainability plays a big role too. Recycled composites, renewable fibers, and high-content recycled aluminum are worked into the cabin without cheapening the feel. Instead of a rear window, Polestar uses cameras and digital display tech, which cleans up the profile and reinforces the minimalist approach.

The Polestar 5 won’t be for everyone, and it isn’t meant to be. Starting around €119,900 in Germany, it aims squarely at the premium end of the market. Interestingly, Polestar has chosen to sidestep North America and China at launch, focusing instead on Europe and a handful of other regions.

Production will take place in China, but volumes are expected to be modest. This is a halo product, designed to give Polestar prestige and credibility against the best from Germany.
