Design Evolution with a Clear Link to Heritage
The 2026 Nissan Navara PRO-4X arrives as the flagship expression of Nissan’s next-generation ute, carrying familiar cues while stepping noticeably closer to the brand’s global design language. The press photos show a body that sits with more authority on the road — broader in stance, calmer in its surfacing, but still unmistakably Navara. The signature V-strut nose is now more architectural, inspired directly by Australian-modified utes that influenced Nissan’s global design team. Three-slot detailing nods to the D21 generation, while the C-shaped headlamps lock cleanly into the front shield for a cohesive, technical look.
The PRO-4X specification brings a darker, more aggressive aesthetic: black 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tyres, a black sports bar, and Lava Red highlights that appear sparingly on the grille, towbar area, and cabin stitching. It reads tougher without tipping into excess — the kind of restraint that suits a vehicle positioned for both work and lifestyle use.
Cabin Upgrades Focused on Clarity and Practical Comfort
Inside, the Navara continues Nissan’s approach of making its top trims feel more deliberate rather than simply more decorated. The PRO-4X introduces Lava Red accents in the seats and detailing, but the broader layout remains functional. The new 9-inch touchscreen, now standard across the range, sits cleanly in the upper dash with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto fitted from base grade upward. ST-X and PRO-4X variants add wireless phone charging in a neatly integrated lower console tray.
A 7-inch TFT display provides clearer vehicle data, while connected features expand via the MyNISSAN Navara suite — including remote HVAC control, vehicle tracking, door lock control, and emergency assistance. It’s a notable shift for a ute traditionally judged on toughness first and tech second.
Locally Tuned Suspension for Regional Conditions
What distinguishes this generation most is the work done beneath it. Nissan and Premcar developed a new suspension tune specifically for Australia and New Zealand, running over 18,000 kilometers of evaluation across corrugated outback roads, highways, and loaded urban driving. The result is a setup that is compliant when unladen but stable and predictable under maximum payload and towing loads. Every grade receives the locally tuned calibration, marking a rare level of region-specific engineering investment.
Towing capacity remains at 3,500 kg braked, while the PRO-4X benefits from added terrain capability through all-terrain tyres and a standard towbar.
Powertrain: Familiar but Strengthened
All grades use a 2.4-litre turbodiesel four-cylinder generating 150 kW and 470 Nm, paired to a wide-ratio six-speed automatic. Fuel consumption is rated at 7.7 L/100 km (combined) under ADR81/02 testing. Electric Power Steering is newly adopted, improving efficiency and steering precision across varying loads.
Selectable 4WD systems differ by grade, with the PRO-4X offering the new Super 4WD setup featuring full-time high-range, an open center differential, and a Torsen limited-slip differential. Seven terrain modes adjust throttle, traction, and stability parameters for changing conditions.
Safety: Broader Coverage Across All Grades
The Navara brings a significantly expanded ADAS suite, including eight airbags, Emergency Lane Assist, Blind Spot Warning, Rear and Front Cross Traffic Alert, Driver Monitoring, and Traffic Sign Recognition. LED lighting is standard from the entry tier, underscoring Nissan’s shift toward more uniform safety provisioning.
Positioning: Built for a Broader Audience
While the PRO-4X leans heavily into lifestyle and off-road appeal, the broader Navara lineup is simplified to reflect buyer patterns — exclusively double-cab automatic models from launch. Nissan’s 10-year/300,000 km warranty (when serviced with Nissan) reinforces the long-term positioning as the model enters its 40th anniversary year in Oceania.
