Design and Character
The 2026 NIO Firefly Nocturnal Creatures Edition brings attitude to NIO’s compact EV lineup. Officially unveiled at Shanghai’s “Energetic Night Park” event, it’s the brand’s second limited-run variant, following the Maillard Edition. This one’s edgier — a city car dressed for a night rally.
The two-tone finish — a black front fading into a white tail — gives it a striking gradient effect, highlighted by rally-style white wheels and black body cladding. The familiar triple-ring LED headlights remain, lending that signature “Firefly glow,” but the rest of the look is sharper, more assertive. It’s compact at 4,003 mm long, 1,781 mm wide, and 1,557 mm high, riding on a 2,615 mm wheelbase.
Interior and Features
Inside, the cabin layout stays familiar but gains some clever updates. A new “G-force ambient ring” display lets drivers visualize real-time cornering forces on the central screen — a gimmick perhaps, but one that fits the car’s youthful spirit. Owners also get a black NFC key card with a glowing logo — a small touch, yet distinctly cool.
Performance and Dynamics
Under the surface, NIO has added what it calls the G-force Handling Package. That means firmer, red high-damping coil springs, 5.3% stiffer than the standard setup. It’s a small tweak that improves body control through corners and gives a bit more confidence on spirited drives.
The powertrain remains unchanged — a 105 kW rear-mounted motor powered by a 42.1 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, offering about 420 km of range under CLTC conditions. The car’s compact dimensions and low center of gravity keep it nimble in urban settings, though the new suspension gives it a touch more edge for weekend drives.
Limited Production and Market Appeal
Only 666 units will be produced, priced at ¥136,800, or ¥96,800 under NIO’s BaaS battery rental plan. The “Nocturnal Creatures Edition” adds individuality to the growing segment of small electric city cars — a space shared with the BYD Seagull and VW ID.2.
It’s not a performance EV, nor does it try to be. What NIO has done instead is craft a version of the Firefly that feels expressive, tactile, and personal. The 2026 NIO Firefly Nocturnal Creatures Edition is a reminder that even the smallest EVs can have character — and a bit of bite beneath their bright lights.
