2026 Mitsubishi eK Cross EV receives a subtle update
The 2026 Mitsubishi eK Cross EV arrives with a series of small but noticeable changes rather than a complete redesign. Mitsubishi has refreshed the exterior, expanded the list of convenience features and added equipment that makes daily driving a little easier, while keeping the compact electric kei car's familiar layout and battery system.
Sales in Japan are scheduled to begin on 25 June, with the latest version continuing to target drivers looking for an urban-friendly electric vehicle that's simple to live with.
Revised styling softens the exterior
The biggest visual changes are found at the front. Mitsubishi has reworked the fascia with a smoother, more continuous appearance, replacing some of the busier styling from the outgoing model. The wheel arches and side sill garnishes are now finished in the same body colour, creating a cleaner overall profile.
An illuminated LED treatment within the front grille adds a modern touch and helps distinguish the updated model, especially after dark. Mitsubishi has also expanded the colour palette with several new two-tone and monotone finishes, giving buyers a wider range of combinations than before.
Although the updates are modest, they give the compact EV a softer and more refined appearance without changing its familiar proportions.
Cabin upgrades focus on everyday use
Inside, Mitsubishi has concentrated on practicality. A new optional AC accessory outlet capable of supplying up to 1,500 watts allows the traction battery to power household appliances and electronic equipment, making the vehicle more useful during outdoor activities or emergency situations.
USB charging has also been improved. Higher-grade models receive additional charging ports, including two USB Type-C connections and one USB Type-A port, making it easier for passengers to keep multiple devices powered.
Comfort equipment has also expanded. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel are now standard on more trim levels, while a newly added rear-seat alert reminds drivers to check the back seats before leaving the vehicle.
Familiar electric drivetrain remains
Mechanically, the 2026 Mitsubishi eK Cross EV remains unchanged. It continues to use a 20 kWh battery pack driving the front wheels and offers a WLTC-rated driving range of 180 kilometres, a figure Mitsubishi says is well suited to typical daily driving.
The company notes that many kei car owners travel less than 50 kilometres each day, allowing most drivers to go for around two days between charges under typical usage patterns.
Still aimed squarely at urban drivers
Rather than chasing higher performance or longer range, Mitsubishi has chosen to refine the ownership experience. The refreshed styling gives the eK Cross EV a cleaner identity, while the additional charging options, expanded comfort features and practical power outlet address everyday needs that owners are likely to notice first.
In Japan's growing kei EV segment, the 2026 Mitsubishi eK Cross EV continues to focus on usability, quiet electric driving and compact dimensions, making it a practical option for city commuting and daily errands.
