Shadow Edition Adds Darker Identity to Countryman
BMW Japan has introduced the 2026 MINI Cooper Countryman Shadow Edition, a special variant of the latest-generation Countryman, on sale nationwide from 29 January with deliveries scheduled from February
The model builds on the third-generation Countryman launched in 2023, itself a reinvention of what Japanese customers previously knew as the MINI Crossover
This Shadow Edition takes the most popular clean diesel variant, the MINI Countryman D, and layers on JCW Trim specification with a monochrome design approach
Priced at ¥5,980,000 (manufacturer’s suggested retail price, excluding additional fees), the Shadow Edition positions itself as a premium, design-focused addition to the lineup
Legend Grey and Black Exterior Treatment
Visually, the 2026 MINI Cooper Countryman Shadow Edition adopts a unified dark palette. The body is finished in Legend Grey, paired with a contrasting black roof. Black sports bonnet stripes reinforce the more assertive character associated with JCW Trim
Nineteen-inch JCW Runway Spoke wheels in black sit under subtly flared arches, while JCW sports brakes and adaptive suspension underline the dynamic emphasis
The inclusion of heritage mirror caps featuring the Union Jack motif maintains a clear link to MINI’s British roots
The overall stance remains upright and compact, consistent with the Countryman’s SUV proportions. However, the darker surfaces visually lower the car and give it a more planted appearance, particularly when viewed from a front three-quarter angle.
Diesel Performance with JCW Hardware
Under the bonnet, the Shadow Edition retains the 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder MINI TwinPower Turbo diesel engine found in the Countryman D. Output is rated at 110 kW, with maximum torque of 360 Nm
Power is delivered through a seven-speed dual-clutch sports automatic transmission with paddle shifters
While outright performance figures are not detailed in the release, the torque figure suggests strong mid-range response suited to both urban driving and highway cruising.

Functionally, the Shadow Edition mirrors the wider Countryman range. It features the Level 2 “Hands-Off” traffic jam assist system, allowing limited hands-free operation at speeds below 60 km/h under specific conditions, provided the driver maintains forward attention
Driving Assist Professional and Parking Assist systems are also included, incorporating adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane change and lane departure warnings, collision mitigation braking, surround view and reverse assist functionality.
