2026 MG IM5

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • High-performance electric sedan: Dual-motor IM5 Performance delivers up to 553 kW (751 PS) and 802 Nm torque with 0–62 mph in 3.2 s.

  • Class-leading long-range: Long Range model with 100 kWh battery offers up to 441 miles (710 km CLTC), fast 800 V charging architecture supports 10–80% in ~17 minutes.

  • Premium tech and space: 26.3 in panoramic dashboard display, 10.5 in infotainment panel, 20-speaker sound, panoramic sunroof, R‑wheel steering and MG iSMART integration.

Power and Range, Two Ways

Long Range

This one’s rear-drive. A single motor at the back pushing around 300 kW (407 PS) and 500 Nm of torque. Top speed is 220 km/h. It’ll do 0–62 mph in about 4.9 seconds.  Battery is a 100 kWh NMC pack. Official CLTC range is up to 441 miles (710 km). Plenty for long commutes or cross-country runs.

Performance

The big one. Dual motors, AWD. 553 kW (751 PS) and 802 Nm. Launches from 0–62 mph in 3.2 seconds. Top speed near 267 km/h. WLTP range is around 575 km (357 miles). Both versions get the same 800 V architecture. That means fast DC charging—10 to 80 percent in roughly 17 minutes if you’re at a capable charger.

Inside the Cabin

You’ll notice the 26.3-inch panoramic screen first. It stretches across most of the dashboard. Below that is a 10.5-inch vertical touchscreen. MG has moved nearly all controls to the screen. Seats are trimmed in synthetic leather. Heated and cooled. There’s a panoramic sunroof overhead and a 20-speaker sound system tuned to impress. Rear-wheel steering helps in tight spots and stabilizes things at higher speeds. It’s a feature more common in the next segment up—MG wants that to stand out here.

Smart Features and AI Integration

MG’s iSMART platform powers most of the digital features. It supports over-the-air updates, phone pairing, remote diagnostics, and more. There’s also a set of AI-based driving assistants—Rainy Night Mode, lane-keeping, and a semi-automated drive function they call iAD Chauffeur Mode.

Ride Quality and Suspension Setup

Suspension uses a double-wishbone layout in front and a multi-link setup at the rear. Steering feel is light in Comfort and Eco modes, a bit more weighted in Sport. The ride is balanced—MG’s gone for comfort here. Acoustic glass, solid insulation, and low wind noise levels help with that. You can dial in regen levels, too. There’s no dedicated one-pedal mode yet, though future updates might unlock it.
