A More Accessible Entry to the MG4 Lineup
The 2026 MG 4 EV Urban has been introduced as the newest and most affordable member of the MG4 family, reinforcing MG’s strategy of making electric motoring attainable without stripping back substance. Prices begin at £23,495 for the Comfort Standard Range, rising to £25,495 for the Comfort Long Range and £27,995 for the Premium Long Range.
The MG4 EV has already established itself as one of the UK’s most popular electric cars, with nearly 50,000 sales and more than 50 awards since launch in 2022. The Urban range is intended to widen that appeal further, targeting first-time EV buyers and families seeking a practical second car.
Design Adjustments and Exterior Identity
Visually, the MG4 EV Urban adopts a subtly different appearance from the existing MG4 EV. Smoother lines and cleaner surfaces define the bodywork, while slim LED headlights integrate daytime running lights and indicators into a compact, purposeful front graphic. A split lower grille, inspired by the MG Cyberster, adds a touch of visual energy without appearing overstated.
At the rear, a full-width light bar and arrow-shaped LED graphics maintain MG’s technology-led identity. Six exterior colours are available, including the newly introduced Stone Green, broadening the Urban’s visual appeal.
The proportions remain hatchback-focused and practical. The emphasis is clearly on space and usability rather than dramatic stance.
Interior Space and Practicality
Inside, the 2026 MG 4 EV Urban prioritises comfort and storage. Headroom measures 997mm at the front and 957mm at the rear, while rear passengers benefit from 984mm of legroom and 107mm of knee room. A rear aisle width of up to 315mm reinforces the sense of openness.
Storage provision is unusually generous for the class, with 30 separate compartments throughout the cabin. Boot space stands at 479 litres with the seats in place, plus an additional 98 litres beneath the boot floor. With the rear seats folded, total capacity reaches 1,364 litres.
The dual-screen layout combines a 12.8-inch HD touchscreen with a 7-inch driver display. Physical air-conditioning controls remain, reflecting customer feedback. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, as is MG’s iSMART connectivity suite.
Battery Options and Driving Range
The MG4 EV Urban is built on MG’s front-wheel-drive E3 platform and offers two battery choices: a 43kWh Standard Range and a 54kWh Long Range pack. The latter delivers up to 258 miles of WLTP range.
Rapid DC charging allows the 43kWh battery to move from 10% to 80% in 28 minutes, while the 54kWh pack achieves the same in 30 minutes. A heat pump is fitted as standard to enhance efficiency in colder conditions.
Five drive modes—Snow, ECO, Standard, Sport and Custom—allow drivers to tailor steering, power delivery and pedal response. A 5.2-metre turning radius aids manoeuvrability in urban settings.
Positioning in a Competitive Segment
With a 7-year/80,000-mile warranty and a starting price below many rivals, the 2026 MG 4 EV Urban is positioned as an affordable, space-rich electric hatchback that does not compromise on technology. In a segment where cost remains a barrier to adoption, MG’s formula remains straightforward: deliver more usable range, more interior space and more standard equipment at a price that broadens access.
