McLaren has produced countless special editions over the years, but the story behind the 2026 McLaren Artura 1000GP by MSO is unusually specific.
The limited-run model arrives to celebrate McLaren Racing's 1,000th Formula 1 Grand Prix start, a landmark the team will reach during the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix. According to McLaren, only one other Formula 1 team has ever reached that figure, making the occasion significant enough to inspire a dedicated road car.
Rather than developing a more powerful Artura or introducing major mechanical changes, McLaren Special Operations focused on creating something that visually connects owners to a particular moment in the company's racing history.
Monaco inspiration shapes the exterior
The Artura itself remains familiar, but the details tell a different story.
MSO drew inspiration from the special livery applied to the McLaren MCL40 Formula 1 cars driven by Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in Monaco. The result is a series of graphics that stretch across the bonnet, lower body sections, and mirror caps.
Looking at the official images, the treatment feels more like a race car tribute than a traditional appearance package. The large "1000GP" graphics are impossible to miss, yet they stop short of overwhelming the Artura's clean surfacing.
Additional pinstripe accents appear on the front splitter and rear diffuser. Those details reference historic McLaren racing liveries and help tie the whole theme together.
Small interior details tell the story
Inside, MSO has taken a more restrained approach.
The centerpiece is a bespoke dedication plaque finished in metallic papaya, the color most closely associated with McLaren's racing identity. Rather than filling the cabin with commemorative graphics, the designers appear to have focused on a few carefully chosen touches.
That decision feels appropriate. The Artura already has a modern and driver-focused interior, so the commemorative elements serve more as reminders of the occasion than a complete redesign.

McLaren's announcement focuses entirely on the anniversary theme rather than performance upgrades.
