2026 Mazda Flair Crossover

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Refreshed front styling introduces a larger grille and revised bumper on most trims.

  • Standard safety equipment expands with upgraded Dual Sensor Brake Support II.

  • Mild-hybrid 660cc engines and compact kei dimensions continue unchanged.

2026 Mazda Flair Crossover receives meaningful updates

The 2026 Mazda Flair Crossover has been refreshed for the Japanese market with a series of styling tweaks, upgraded safety technology and a handful of practical improvements. While the changes aren't extensive, they address some of the areas where the compact kei crossover had fallen behind newer rivals.

The model remains a rebadged version of the Suzuki Hustler, following the same update path as its sibling. Even so, Mazda has retained the Flair Crossover's own identity through revised exterior details and trim-specific styling.

Fresh front-end styling gives it a stronger identity

Most of the visual updates are concentrated at the front. XG, XS and XT grades adopt a noticeably larger grille that now stretches between the familiar round headlights, accompanied by a redesigned lower bumper and revised fog lamp surrounds. The changes give the little crossover a broader and more confident appearance without altering its unmistakable boxy silhouette.

The more rugged ZS and ZT variants follow a different path. They keep the slimmer grille and unpainted bumpers with aluminum-look inserts, echoing the Suzuki Hustler Tough Wild. Mazda has also introduced a new Woodland Khaki Metallic exterior color, along with fresh two-tone paint combinations featuring brown or black contrast roofs depending on the trim level.

Compact dimensions remain perfect for city driving

Despite the visual revisions, the Flair Crossover keeps the dimensions required for Japan's kei car regulations. Measuring just 3,395 mm long, 1,475 mm wide and 1,680 mm tall, it remains exceptionally compact while offering a 2,460 mm wheelbase that maximizes cabin space within its small footprint. Those proportions continue to make it well suited to narrow city streets and tight parking spaces.

Safety technology takes the biggest step forward

The most important updates happen beneath the surface. Every 2026 Mazda Flair Crossover now comes equipped with Suzuki's upgraded Dual Sensor Brake Support II system as standard. By combining a monocular camera with millimeter-wave radar, the system improves the detection of pedestrians and motorcycles, particularly at intersections.

Additional safety equipment now includes low-speed forward braking support, front parking sensors, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-hold capability for traffic congestion. Practical upgrades include standard folding mirrors with integrated LED indicators, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, USB-C ports and a 9-inch navigation-equipped infotainment display on every grade except the entry-level XG.

Familiar mild-hybrid powertrains continue

Under the bonnet, Mazda continues with the existing 660cc three-cylinder mild-hybrid engines paired exclusively with a continuously variable transmission. Buyers can choose between a naturally aspirated version producing 48 hp or a turbocharged unit developing 63 hp, with both front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations available.

Now available to order in Japan, the 2026 Mazda Flair Crossover starts at ¥1,610,400 for the front-wheel-drive XG and rises to ¥2,275,900 for the turbocharged four-wheel-drive ZT. With its refreshed styling, stronger safety package and practical updates, it remains one of Mazda's most affordable crossover models in its home market.
