Mazda stays committed to driving feel—now with added efficiency.
Mazda just lifted the curtain on the 2026 Mazda CX-5, and while at first glance it may feel familiar, a second look tells you everything's been sharpened. This isn't a revolution—more like a careful rebalancing. Which, to be fair, is very Mazda. The proportions are better, the tech’s smarter, and the design looks like it’s grown up without losing its edge.
Let’s start with the stance. The new CX-5 sits longer and wider than before—4,690 mm long and 1,860 mm wide—which gives it more visual stability, especially from the rear three-quarter view. The surface work is cleaner than ever. You can tell Mazda’s still obsessed with how light plays across the body, even in photos. It has that restrained, sculpted feel—not too much going on, but everything that’s there feels intentional.
Toned Body, Calmer Presence
The grille is wider and flatter, and the headlights are sleeker, almost tucked into the body instead of slapped on. There’s a faint resemblance to the larger CX-60 in the way it holds itself—confident but not trying too hard. Rear lights now have a new light signature too, almost like delicate lines etched into the tailgate. It’s not flashy, but it doesn’t need to be.
Under the Skin: Familiar, But Smarter
Underneath, the 2026 Mazda CX-5 continues with the 2.5-liter petrol engine, now assisted by a 24V mild-hybrid system. No full EV here—not yet—but the M Hybrid tech smooths things out and adds a touch of efficiency without changing the drive’s character. Paired with a 6-speed automatic and available AWD, the setup is designed for balance more than brute force.
Don’t expect crazy acceleration numbers—it’s still around 141 PS and 238 Nm in the FWD spec—but Mazda has always prioritized how a car feels through corners rather than its straight-line stats. Ride and handling tweaks include revised MacPherson struts and a multi-link rear, tuned to offer more composure without dulling responsiveness.
Market Fit and Segment Pressure
In terms of competition, it’s still toe-to-toe with the likes of the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Hyundai Tucson—but Mazda isn’t chasing volume in the same way. This new CX-5 leans into design clarity, interior tactility, and that whole Jinba Ittai philosophy. It’s a reminder that not every crossover needs oversized screens and angry grilles to stand out.
