2026 Mahindra Motors XEV 9S
By Lorenzo Bianchi November 29, 2025
India’s first electric-origin 7-seater SUV, built on the INGLO platform.
Offers up to 500 km real-world range with multiple battery pack options.
Starts at ₹19.95 lakh, with bookings from January 14 and deliveries from January 23, 2026.
Design and Proportions of the Vehicle
Mahindra positions the 2026 XEV 9S as “India’s Big New Electric,” and the proportions match that claim. The SUV sits confidently upright, with a wide, athletic stance and clean surfaces shaped around the brand’s Heartcore design philosophy. In photos, the gloss-finished panels pick up soft reflections, making the silhouette appear more refined than imposing.
The front features bi-LED headlamps, DRLs with a centre signature lamp and an illuminated logo on higher packs
Along the profile, the long wheelbase and balanced overhangs help ground the shape, while LED tail lamps add a technical look to the rear. A panoramic skyroof brings light into all three rows, making the interior feel more open—important for a model built around space.
Mahindra describes the XEV 9S as “silent sophistication,” and the visual impression supports that framing. It aims for calmness rather than aggression, an intentional contrast to many modern EVs that lean heavily into angular, futuristic forms.
Performance and Powertrain Overview
The XEV 9S launches with multiple battery options: 59 kWh, 70 kWh and 79 kWh, depending on variant. The 79 kWh pack is capable of delivering up to 210 kW of power and 380 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful configuration
Mahindra quotes a 500 km real-world range, supported by an LFP battery with a lifetime warranty.
Fast-charging capability varies by pack—up to 20–80% in 20 minutes using a 180 kW DC charger for the top-spec battery
Ride and handling hardware reflect Mahindra’s focus on comfort: intelligent adaptive dampers with i-Link front suspension and a 5-link setup at the rear, supported by frequency-dependent damping and brake-by-wire technology. The SUV claims the fastest 0–100 km/h time in its class at 7.0 seconds, with a top speed of 202 km/h
Key Features and Interior Impression
Space is central to the XEV 9S identity. Mahindra lists 4076 L of combined cabin volume across the first two rows, alongside a 527 L boot and a 150 L frunk
The three-row layout includes sliding second-row seats, a 50:50 split third row and multiple recline steps.
Higher trims bring an expansive digital environment: three 31.24 cm (12.3-inch) displays, Qualcomm chipsets (up to Snapdragon 8295), Dolby Atmos, 5G connectivity and BYOD in-car integration
Comfort features include ventilated seats in the first and second rows (variant-dependent), dual-zone climate control, sunshades, laminated glass, a cooled console, and smartphone-class charging speeds with 65 W Type-C ports.
Safety hardware includes 7 airbags, L2+ ADAS with five radars and a vision camera, driver drowsiness detection, blind spot systems, and Secure360 live recording with remote communication capabilities
Market Positioning and Segment Context
Mahindra frames the XEV 9S as a redefining product—an electric SUV designed specifically for India rather than converted from an ICE platform. By combining space, price accessibility (starting at ₹19.95 lakh), and technology content normally reserved for higher segments, the brand aims to broaden the EV market rather than compete solely within it.
Bookings begin January 14, with deliveries starting January 23, 2026, positioning the XEV 9S as one of the most significant EV launches in the country’s upcoming model cycle.
