New M_Glyde 4G underpinnings bring PENTALINK rear suspension and DAVINCI Damping.
Petrol output rises to 119 kW and 330 Nm, while the D22 diesel produces 111.9 kW and 330 Nm.
The 2026 Mahindra Thar OG replaces the three door Thar introduced in 2020, but Mahindra has deliberately kept the familiar formula recognizable. The body remains upright and boxy, while most of the substantial changes sit underneath it.
Launched in India on September 22, 2026, the Thar OG starts at ₹10.32 lakh ex showroom. Deliveries begin October 11. Mahindra says the outgoing three door model has helped build a customer base of more than four lakh for the Thar nameplate.
Familiar Thar Shape Gets A New Face
The recognizable silhouette stays, but the details have moved on. A redesigned grille sits between circular LED headlamps and C shaped daytime running lights, with LED ice cube fog lamps positioned lower down. Both bumpers are new, and the track has been widened.
New 19 inch alloy wheels are fitted to the ZXT, while Mahindra has also added Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue to the color palette. Lower grades use 18 inch steel or alloy wheels depending on specification.
New Platform Changes The Thar Underneath
The bigger story is the M_Glyde 4G platform. Mahindra says it has greater stiffness, while the rear suspension now uses a PENTALINK arrangement incorporating a Watts Link. DAVINCI Damping with Frequency Dependent Damping is designed to improve ride quality, and electric power steering replaces the previous setup.
Four wheel drive versions also receive an Electronic Locking Differential and dedicated Mud, Sand and Snow terrain modes. RWD and 4WD configurations remain available depending on engine and variant.
Cabin Adds A Larger Touchscreen
The LXT introduces a 26.03 cm HD touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a color MID, cruise control and electrically adjustable mirrors. ZXT adds a wireless charger, rear view camera, front parking sensors and leatherette wrapped steering wheel. Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery is another new visual change.
There are practical details too. Rear passengers get AC vents and a soft armrest over the wheel arches, while 4WD LXT models include a washable floor with drain plugs.
Petrol And Diesel Engines Get More Output
The G20 TGDi mStallion petrol now produces 119 kW and 330 Nm. The D22 mHawk diesel develops 111.9 kW and 330 Nm, while the D117 CRDe diesel continues with 87.2 kW and 300 Nm. Manual and automatic transmissions are offered depending on engine and drivetrain.
Safety equipment reaches six airbags on ZXT, including four HPTS airbags, along with four wheel disc brakes, ESP 9.3 and front parking sensors.
With prices extending to ₹18.99 lakh for the ZXT D22 diesel 4WD automatic, the Thar OG keeps the three door format while addressing ride, cabin technology and everyday usability more directly than before.
