Lotus Pushes The Emira Closer To The Track
The 2026 Lotus Emira 420 Sport feels like Lotus tightening the screws on a car that was already aimed squarely at driving enthusiasts.
The regular Emira always carried strong visual drama and excellent chassis balance, though this new version leans harder into outright driver focus. More power, less weight and sharper aerodynamic tuning sit at the centre of the update.
Lotus describes it as the most powerful and aerodynamically capable Emira built so far, and the changes are substantial enough to back that up. The Emira 420 Sport sits at the top of the lineup and has clearly been developed with track use more firmly in mind, even if it remains road legal and relatively civilised underneath it all.
Sharper Aero Without Losing The Emira Shape
Visually, the Emira 420 Sport keeps the same low, exotic silhouette that made the standard car stand out from the moment it launched.
The proportions still work beautifully. The cabin sits low between wide rear haunches, while the compact greenhouse and short overhangs give the car a planted stance without needing oversized wings or exaggerated bodywork.
Lotus has revised several aerodynamic elements, though the updates remain surprisingly restrained visually. There is a new front splitter, revised front vents, larger air intakes, extended side sills and a louvred tailgate. A lip spoiler and diffuser revisions complete the package.
The company says airflow to the outboard radiators improves by 15 per cent, while brake cooling rises by 10 per cent. Exhaust valve airflow also increases by 30 per cent.
Some of the detailing subtly references older Lotus models too, particularly the Esprit Turbo.
Less Weight And More Precision
The biggest gains come from the Lightweight Handling Pack.
With it fitted, the Emira 420 Sport weighs 25 kg less than the Emira Turbo while also generating 25 kg more downforce. Lotus achieves that through a mix of carbon fibre components, a titanium exhaust system and a lithium-ion battery.
Under the rear hatch sits a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 420 PS and 500 Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Lotus claims a 0–62 mph sprint of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 186 mph.
The chassis revisions sound equally serious. Two-way adjustable Multimatic dampers, a 5 mm lower ride height and revised suspension tuning are all aimed at improving body control and steering response. High-performance tyres and Lotus’ electro-hydraulic steering system remain central to the car’s character.
Cabin Changes Stay Focused On The Driver
Inside, Lotus keeps the cabin relatively clean and functional rather than chasing oversized digital displays or gimmicks.
New carbon fibre shift paddles, revised haptic controls and optional carbon fibre trim details add a slightly more technical feel without overwhelming the interior. Buyers can also choose a Hand Painted Pack that adds Tangelo Orange highlights throughout the cabin.
A removable tinted glass roof panel also arrives for the first time on the Emira. Inspired by the Esprit, the panel stores behind the seats and can quickly convert the coupe into a more open-air experience.
Customer deliveries are expected to begin from August 2026.
