That distinction influences the entire vehicle. The platform places the battery pack low within the structure, improving the centre of gravity while contributing to a stable, planted stance on the road. Engineers were able to rethink weight distribution, structural rigidity and packaging from the beginning of the development process.
Within the local lineup, the RZ 500e serves as the foundation of the range, positioned below the more performance-focused RZ 550e F SPORT while maintaining the same core electric architecture.
Exterior design and aerodynamic form
From the first glance, the RZ carries familiar Lexus design cues. The signature spindle motif remains, although it evolves into what the company describes as a spindle body. Without the need for a traditional grille opening, the front fascia becomes a sculpted surface that emphasizes width and stability.
Proportions are clearly influenced by the EV platform. The wheelbase stretches relative to the overall body length, while the overhangs remain tight. The result is a stance that appears planted and balanced.
In order to define the bodywork, Lexus designers have eschewed elaborate decoration in favor of smooth surfaces and delicate character lines. Aerodynamic refinements are integrated into the shape, helping to reduce drag while supporting high-speed stability.
The effect is composed rather than dramatic, consistent with Lexus’ preference for clean, controlled design.
Cabin layout follows Lexus Tazuna philosophy
Inside, the RZ adopts Lexus’ Tazuna cockpit concept, a layout intended to keep key information and controls within the driver’s natural line of sight. The goal is simple: reduce distraction while strengthening the connection between driver and machine.
A dial-type shift-by-wire controller replaces the conventional gear selector, giving the centre console a cleaner appearance. Ambient lighting projects subtle layered patterns across the cabin surfaces, creating depth without overwhelming the interior atmosphere.
High-end synthetic leather upholstery with hazel or grayscale interior themes is used in the RZ 500e EX.
Technology plays a central role. Higher trims incorporate a 14-inch Full HD multimedia display, while available equipment includes a 13-speaker Mark Levinson audio system, head-up display and a digital rear-view mirror designed to improve visibility in poor conditions.
One notable feature is Lexus’ radiant heating system. Infrared panels warm occupants directly rather than heating cabin air, which the company says improves efficiency while maintaining comfort.

In EX and SE form, the system produces 280 kW of combined output, providing brisk acceleration typical of modern electric SUVs.
Power is distributed through Lexus’ DIRECT4 intelligent all-wheel drive system, which continuously adjusts torque between the front and rear motors to maintain traction and stability.
Battery capacity measures 74.6 kWh in the RZ 500e variants. During heavy loads or fast charging, a water-cooling system aids in maintaining constant operating temperatures.
Charging infrastructure compatibility is addressed through a 22 kW onboard charger and battery pre-conditioning technology that prepares the pack before fast charging begins. Under cold conditions, Lexus states a 10 to 80 percent charge can be achieved in roughly 30 minutes.

In South Africa, the RZ 500e EX is priced at R1 649 400, forming the entry point to the electric lineup before the more extensively equipped SE and the performance-focused F SPORT derivatives.
Globally, the model enters a competitive space alongside vehicles such as the Audi Q8 e-tron, BMW iX and Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV. Lexus’ approach remains consistent with the brand’s identity: refinement, quiet composure and careful craftsmanship rather than headline performance figures.
