2026 Leap Motor D19

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Leapmotor D19 arrives as the brand’s largest SUV to date, positioned above the C11.

  • Offers extended driving range, with battery capacity expected over 90 kWh.

  • Designed to compete with established Chinese EVs from BYD, NIO, and Li Auto.

Leapmotor has built its reputation on making electric cars accessible, but with the 2026 D19, the brand is aiming higher. Slotted above the smaller C11, the D19 marks Leapmotor’s push into the crowded mid-to-large SUV market, the part of the EV world that’s seeing the most growth right now.

It’s a segment dominated by heavy-hitters like the BYD Tang, NIO ES6, and Li Auto L7. To stand out, Leapmotor has given the D19 more presence, more room, and a spec sheet that keeps pace with expectations.

Design and proportions

The D19 stretches past 4.9 meters in length, sitting on a wheelbase close to 2.9 meters. That puts it squarely in the mid-to-large SUV class. Visually, it stays in line with Leapmotor’s current design language — clean surfaces, slim LED lights, and a simple, aerodynamic front with a closed-off grille.

Flush door handles and sculpted side panels add to the efficiency-focused design. Wheel sizes should run between 19 and 21 inches depending on trim, giving it a stance that feels planted without being excessive.

Cabin space and digital focus

Leapmotor has leaned heavily into tech across its lineup, and the D19 looks to continue that trend. Inside, the SUV gets a wide digital cockpit, with a large central screen paired to a dedicated driver display. Software is built on Leapmotor’s own architecture, supporting over-the-air updates and a growing suite of driver-assist features.

Where the D19 really separates itself from the C11 is space. The longer wheelbase means far more legroom in the second row, with the possibility of six- or seven-seat versions alongside the standard five-seat setup [Speculation]. Materials, lighting, and sound insulation are also expected to take a step up to keep pace with rivals.

Powertrain lineup

Built on the company’s LEAP 3.0 platform, the D19 will come with both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive options. A single motor setup will target efficiency, while dual-motor versions bring outputs in the 200–300 kW range.

The stronger AWD variants are expected to post 0–100 km/h times in the 5–6 second bracket [Speculation], which is right in the mix with other SUVs in this size class.

Battery capacity is set to clear 90 kWh, with official CLTC figures projected to run between 600 km and 700 km, depending on trim. That’s an important figure for family buyers who see range as a deal-breaker.

DC fast charging support should allow the D19 to jump from 30–80% in around 30 minutes, which keeps it practical for road trips as well as urban use.

Safety and driver assistance

Leapmotor has been rolling out its in-house Leapmotor Pilot assistance suite across the range, and the D19 will get the latest version. Expect the usual adaptive cruise, lane-keeping, and automated parking functions, with lidar and radar hardware backing the system [Speculation].

The brand has also emphasized improvements in structural safety, with the D19 set to align with international standards as Leapmotor eyes potential exports in the future.

Leapmotor hasn’t published official pricing yet, but industry talk points to a range between CNY 220,000 and CNY 300,000 (around USD 30,000–41,000). That would position it above the C11 while keeping it below some premium-badged rivals.

It’s a sweet spot that could pull in buyers who want space and range but aren’t looking to stretch into the higher tiers of luxury EVs.
