2026 Land Rover Defender Works V8

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • 2026 Land Rover Defender Works V8 gains new OCTA-inspired exterior colours and interior trims.

  • Powered by a 405 PS 5.0-litre V8 with upgraded suspension, brakes and steering.

  • Built to order by Land Rover Classic with extensive personalisation options.

Heritage Design Meets Modern Influence

The 2026 Land Rover Defender Works V8 is presented as a continuation of Land Rover Classic’s philosophy: retain the visual honesty of the original Defender while integrating carefully chosen modern references. For 2026, the programme draws direct inspiration from the contemporary Defender OCTA, translating its colour and trim themes into the classic shape without altering the underlying proportions.

Five new exterior colours join the existing palette. Petra Copper, Faroe Green and Sargasso Blue mirror exclusive Defender OCTA finishes, while Narvik Black and Patagonia White extend the darker and lighter ends of the spectrum. These sit alongside previously offered shades such as Borasco Grey, Carpathian Grey and Charente Grey. Each vehicle undergoes roughly 300 hours of paint preparation and finishing, available in either gloss or a newly developed satin finish designed to match the sheen of OCTA’s matte protective film

Subtle exterior details reinforce the link. A gloss black radiator grille echoes the modern OCTA design while improving airflow, and a chopped carbon fibre bonnet script adds a contemporary visual accent without overwhelming the classic bodywork.

Bespoke Interiors with Modern Materials

Inside, the 2026 Land Rover Defender Works V8 gains its most significant material expansion to date. For the first time, customers can specify lightweight Ultrafabrics™ PU trim in Khaki Green, Light Cloud or Lunar, alongside Burnt Sienna semi-aniline leather. Ebony leather is also available, referencing the darker OCTABlack theme.

Land Rover Classic allows customers to work directly with its design team to replicate colour placement across the steering wheel, dashboard, transmission levers, headlining and door trims. Heated Recaro sports seats can be specified, offering more lateral support than the original Defender seating while remaining visually restrained. The approach prioritises craftsmanship over novelty, reinforcing the Defender’s utilitarian roots through modern execution

V8 Power and Re-engineered Dynamics

Beneath the bespoke surfaces, the mechanical package remains the defining element. Each 2026 Land Rover Defender Works V8 is rebuilt from a donor vehicle dating from 2012 to 2016, fully restored and re-engineered by Land Rover Classic’s Works Bespoke team. Power comes from a 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 producing 405 PS, paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission featuring a dedicated sport mode

Chassis upgrades are extensive. A specially developed suspension system incorporates custom springs, dampers and anti-roll bars. Steering is revised for improved precision, while braking is upgraded with 335 mm front and 300 mm rear discs and four-piston calipers. These changes are designed to maintain the Defender’s rugged character while delivering greater composure and control on modern roads.

Positioning in the Modern Classic Market

The 2026 Land Rover Defender Works V8 is offered in 90, 110 Station Wagon and 90 Soft Top body styles. Importantly, buyers do not need to own a modern Defender OCTA to commission a matching Classic V8. Each example is built to order, with options ranging from infotainment upgrades and crystal lighting packs to five wheel styles in multiple finishes and adventure-ready accessories

Pricing starts from £190,000 before local taxes, with a one-year unlimited mileage warranty included. In the wider market, the 2026 Land Rover Defender Works V8 occupies a rare position: an officially sanctioned restomod that balances authenticity, performance and factory-backed craftsmanship. It is neither a museum piece nor a modern reinterpretation, but a carefully curated bridge between Land Rover’s past and present.
