A Confident New Look for Kia’s Best-Seller
The fifth-generation Sportage continues as Kia’s most popular model across the UK, Europe, and globally. For 2026, it adopts a stronger visual identity aligned with the brand’s Opposites United philosophy. The front fascia is now dominated by a larger, reinterpreted “tiger nose” grille framed by stacked LED headlamps and Star Map-themed daytime running lights. New bumpers and trim give it a wider, more confident stance, while the rear features a reshaped tailgate and skid plate, reinforcing its SUV proportions
Three trims—Pure, GT-Line, and GT-Line S—define the UK line-up, each offering distinct styling and equipment combinations. Alloy wheel designs span 17-, 18-, and 19-inch sizes, and eight body colours are available, including Experience Green and Wolf Grey.
Inside the 2026 Sportage HEV
The cabin has been redesigned around Kia’s Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), anchored by a 12.3-inch touchscreen standard across all versions. GT-Line S variants add a second 12.3-inch driver display for a seamless curved panoramic interface. Materials have been upgraded throughout, with new brushed-finish panels replacing piano black trim and hidden air vents creating a clean horizontal layout
Seat comfort improves through new bio PU leather and suede upholstery using sustainable Dinamica® fabric, made from up to 75 percent recycled polyester. Interior flexibility remains one of the model’s strengths: the rear bench folds 40:20:40, expanding luggage capacity from 587 to 1,776 litres. The hybrid’s battery pack sits under the rear seats, preserving passenger and cargo space identical to petrol versions.
Efficiency and Performance
At the heart of the HEV is Kia’s 1.6-litre T-GDi turbocharged four-cylinder paired with a 44.2 kW electric motor and 1.49 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery. Combined output rises to 235 bhp and 265 Nm of torque—up from 212 bhp in the outgoing version. Power is transmitted through a refined six-speed automatic gearbox, available with front- or all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations
The HEV’s efficiency has improved through regenerative braking controlled via paddle shifters in Eco mode. Drivers can select multiple regeneration levels, mirroring Kia’s fully electric models. In Normal and Sport modes, the paddles resume gear-shift control. Fuel economy reaches up to 50.4 mpg, with CO₂ emissions starting from 126 g/km (WLTP).
HEV versions also gain Kia’s e-Handling system, which subtly uses electric motor torque to enhance agility and cornering stability. The European-tuned suspension on the N3 platform delivers balanced steering feedback and comfort, tested extensively on UK and continental roads.
Technology and Connectivity
Kia’s latest ccNC platform introduces faster graphics, smoother transitions, and enhanced personalisation. For 2026, it is joined by a ChatGPT-powered AI voice assistant that can plan routes, suggest rest stops, answer manual queries, or even play trivia on command. The system responds to “Hey Kia,” operating through natural-language interaction
The GT-Line S receives the full technology suite: a 10-inch head-up display, Harman Kardon eight-speaker audio, Digital Key 2.0 (smartphone entry via Apple Wallet, Samsung Wallet, or Google Wallet), and a 360-degree surround-view monitor. Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth streaming are standard across all trims.
Over-the-air (OTA) updates ensure the Sportage’s software and maps stay current without dealer visits. Every new model includes seven years of free Kia Connect services, providing live traffic, weather, parking information, and access to the new unified Kia App for remote features such as lock control and light activation.
Entertainment options expand through Kia Connect Store subscriptions, offering music streaming, YouTube, or full LG webOS access with Netflix and Disney+. An optional “Entertainment Plus Wi-Fi” package turns the car into a personal hotspot, reflecting Kia’s aim to make the Sportage as tech-forward as its EV range.
Driver Assistance and Safety
Safety remains a cornerstone of the Sportage line-up. All versions include Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Multi-Collision Brake Assist, and Smart Cruise Control 2.0 with Stop & Go. GT-Line S models add advanced systems such as Blind-Spot View Monitor, Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist, Safe Exit Warning, and Remote Smart Parking Assist—allowing the vehicle to manoeuvre itself into tight spaces under remote control
The Sportage continues to hold a five-star Euro NCAP rating, bolstered by a robust suite of airbags and driver aids. Its all-wheel-drive HEV variants include a dedicated Terrain Mode with Mud, Snow, and Sand settings to adjust torque and traction distribution automatically
