2026 Kia Sportage Black Edition

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • New Black Edition focuses on gloss-black exterior detailing.

  • Available with petrol, diesel, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

  • Dual 12.3-inch displays and leather or suede interior options.

A darker look for a familiar SUV

The 2026 Kia Sportage Black Edition doesn’t change the formula. It changes how the car presents itself.

This new trim sits alongside existing variants, offering a more design-led option rather than a mechanical overhaul. From a distance, it’s still clearly a Sportage. Same proportions, same stance. But the details shift the tone.

Gloss-black finishes appear across almost every visible surface. The grille, mirror caps, roof rails, lower bumper sections, even the skid plate. The usual chrome or contrasting elements are replaced with a consistent dark treatment.

The updated Kia emblem follows the same approach, finished in black, along with a matching Sportage badge at the rear. It’s a simple idea, but applied thoroughly enough to change the overall character.

With lighter colours like Wolf Grey, the contrast becomes more obvious. With darker shades, the effect is more subtle.

Proportions stay the same, stance feels sharper

The Black Edition doesn’t alter the structure of the car.

It remains a C-segment SUV, built around a balanced footprint that works across different conditions. What changes is how it sits visually.

The alloy wheels play a part here. Available in 17-, 18-, and 19-inch sizes, all finished in high-gloss black, they give the car a slightly more cohesive look. Matte black wheel arches add another layer, tying the design together.

Privacy glass and an optional two-tone black roof further push that darker theme. None of these changes affect the proportions, but they do make the car feel a bit more deliberate.

Interior keeps things familiar, with subtle upgrades

Inside, the layout doesn’t move far from the standard Sportage.

The main display setup uses a dual 12.3-inch panoramic screen, combining infotainment and driver information into one continuous unit. It’s a setup that already works well, so Kia hasn’t tried to reinvent it.

What’s new is more about atmosphere. A black headliner changes the feel of the cabin slightly, making it more enclosed. There’s also an optional mood lighting system, which adds some flexibility depending on preference.

Material choices vary. Buyers can choose between a Misty Grey or Black Leather interior. The Grey version mixes artificial leather with suede, while the Black Leather option uses a similar combination with a darker finish.

It’s not a dramatic shift. Just a more tailored version of what’s already there.

Broad powertrain range remains unchanged

Underneath, the Black Edition keeps the existing Sportage lineup intact.

Petrol options include a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine with either 150 or 180 PS, paired with manual or dual-clutch transmissions. Both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations are available.

There’s also a 1.6-litre diesel mild hybrid producing 136 PS, again with a choice of transmissions.

On the electrified side, the hybrid system combines the same petrol engine with an electric motor for a total of 239 PS. The plug-in hybrid version increases that to 288 PS, with both AWD and a newly introduced front-wheel-drive option.

It’s a wide spread, covering different types of buyers without pushing a single direction.

Practicality and usability remain the focus

The Black Edition doesn’t compromise the everyday usability of the Sportage.

It retains the same level of equipment, with features that support daily driving rather than standing out individually. The cabin remains spacious, and the layout continues to prioritise ease of use.

What this version adds is a different visual tone. One that doesn’t interfere with how the car functions.

Positioned as a design-focused alternative

The 2026 Kia Sportage Black Edition sits as a styling-driven option within the lineup.

It follows earlier special editions, but with a more consistent theme. Instead of adding isolated elements, it reworks the entire exterior around a single idea.

That approach fits the Sportage’s position in the segment. A car that doesn’t need to change dramatically, but can evolve through detail.

Sales in Europe remain strong, with around 160,000 units sold annually. This version builds on that, offering something slightly different without moving too far away from what already works.
