2026 Kia PV5 Passenger UK Version

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • First UK-bound Kia PBV built on the E-GMP.S electric platform.

  • Two battery options with up to 256 miles WLTP range.

  • Designed for passenger use, ride-hailing, and fleet applications.

Exterior Design Shaped by Function

The 2026 Kia PV5 Passenger UK Version makes no attempt to disguise its purpose. The shape is upright, boxy, and deliberate, prioritising space efficiency over visual drama. From the press images, the stance reads confident rather than bulky, with short overhangs and a long wheelbase that hints at interior volume. Kia’s “Opposites United” design language is present, but restrained.

Up front, the face is smooth and almost appliance-like, centred around a neatly integrated charging port. Rectangular headlights sit low to reduce glare, framed by vertical LED daytime running lights that give the PV5 a technical, almost industrial identity. Along the sides, large glass areas and a blacked-out window surround improve visibility and lighten the profile, while unpainted wheel arches and sills underline durability rather than decoration.

At the rear, a full tailgate and low loading height reinforce the PV5’s everyday usability. Modular bumper sections and replaceable trim pieces are clearly engineered for fleet repair cycles, reducing downtime and ownership costs rather than chasing aesthetic perfection

Powertrain and Charging Approach

For the UK, the PV5 Passenger is offered with two battery options. The standard-range 51.5kWh pack delivers up to 183 miles of WLTP range, while the long-range 71.2kWh version extends that figure to 256 miles. Both configurations use a front-mounted electric motor driving the front wheels, with outputs ranging from 120bhp to 160bhp depending on battery choice.Acceleration figures are modest, but appropriate for the vehicle’s role. The emphasis is clearly on predictability and efficiency rather than pace. All versions share an 84mph top speed, reinforcing the PV5’s urban and regional focus.

Charging capability is a strong point. With DC fast charging up to 150kW, the battery can be replenished from 10 to 80 percent in under 30 minutes under optimal conditions. AC charging is supported at 11kW, making overnight depot or home charging practical.

Interior Layout and Technology

Inside, the PV5 Passenger reflects Kia’s passenger-car thinking more than its commercial roots. The dashboard is clean and horizontal, dominated by a 12.9-inch central touchscreen paired with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. Notably, this is Kia’s first production model to run Android Automotive OS, opening the door to integrated fleet and business applications.

Seating is configured in a five-seat, three-row layout at launch, with the third row repurposed as a luggage area. Even so, cargo capacity remains substantial, with over 1,300 litres available behind the second row. Storage is everywhere: trays, under-seat compartments, and modular “AddGear” zones reflect a vehicle designed to be lived in all day.

Materials are chosen for durability rather than luxury, with eco-conscious finishes and hard-wearing surfaces throughout. Heated seats, Vehicle-to-Load capability, and a powered tailgate appear on higher ‘Plus’ specifications.

UK Market Positioning

The UK version of the Kia PV5 Passenger joins a market with little direct competition. Targeting fleets, ride-hailing services, and individual consumers, it falls between electric MPVs and light commercial vans. With a target of about 1,250 UK units in its first full year, Kia anticipates a balanced mix of retail and fleet sales.

The PV5 represents Kia's broader aspirations in the electric LCV market rather than just one model. It feels practical, targeted, and purposefully unglamorous as a first step into PBVs. That clarity may prove to be its strongest asset.
