Kia stretches its design language
Kia has pulled the covers off the 2026 K4 5DR European Version, a hatchback that sits right on the edge between the C- and D-segments. It’s not shy about showing where it comes from: the exterior is a sharp expression of the brand’s “Opposites United” philosophy. The proportions give it presence, at 4,440 mm long and 1,850 mm wide, with a planted stance that makes it look bigger than a typical compact hatch.
Details carry the family DNA. The Star Map lighting signature links it visually to the larger EV9, while the rear door handles are tucked into the C-pillar, keeping the profile clean. Kia’s also rolled out a new Sparkling Yellow finish, a colour that looks designed to catch the eye in urban settings. For buyers wanting more edge, the GT-Line trim layers on gloss black accents, unique alloys, and sportier details inside and out.
Space where it counts
Step inside, and the K4 feels sized for families who want more than a standard hatch but don’t want the bulk of a full D-segment car. Rear passengers get 964 mm of legroom and 973 mm of headroom — numbers that lead the class. Up front, there’s over a meter of stretch-out space for the driver and passenger.
Practicality holds up behind the seats as well. The boot offers 438 litres with the seats upright, expanding to 1,217 litres when folded flat. It’s not just the numbers; the load bay is shaped to take in larger bags and gear without awkward compromise.
The cockpit layout is unmistakably Kia’s latest generation. A pair of 12.3-inch displays form a single panoramic sweep across the dash, covering both the cluster and infotainment, with a separate 5.3-inch climate control display tucked just below. It keeps things digital without burying core functions in endless menus. Higher trims get heated and ventilated front seats, bio-based upholstery choices, and a Harman Kardon audio system that adds real depth to the soundscape.
Engines and drivetrains
At launch, the K4 sticks with petrol and mild-hybrid engines. A full hybrid joins the line in 2026, but for now the options cover a broad spread:
1.0-litre T-GDI petrol, 115 PS, paired with a six-speed manual
1.0-litre T-GDI mild hybrid, 115 PS, available with six-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch
1.6-litre T-GDI petrol, offered at 150 PS or 180 PS, both with the 7-speed dual-clutch
All versions drive the front wheels, with a 47-litre tank across ICE and MHEV variants. The approach is clear: flexibility for buyers across Europe, from entry models to those wanting stronger output, while a hybrid option waits in the wings.
Tech that feels current
Connectivity is where the K4 steps forward. Kia’s Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) underpins the digital environment, with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ standard. Higher trims add wireless charging, while the Digital Key 2.0 allows compatible smartphones to unlock and start the car using ultra-wideband tech.
